Another method I've tried involves drinking a glass of warm fizzy soda (cola works well). You need to drink the entire glass (4-6 ounces usually does the trick) without taking a breath. This should cause one or more massive burps which gets rid of the hiccups, at least it works for me. This doesn' work with cold soda, BTW. |

Drink a glass of water slowly. |

Distract yourself. Read "Lord of the Rings". |

Have sex! It may not cure your hiccups...but you won't care about them anymore! |

Eat a spoonful of granulated sugar |

Plug your nose, hold your breath, plug your ears and swallow.
This one really works: rub the pressure spots right below your ribs. |

for me it's not just a matter of holding my breath as it is stablizing my breathing. Hiccups are the result of abrupt contractions of the diaphram. I try to end them by breathing slowly and regularly and just trying to calm myself. I usually find that the more excited/frustrated I get by them, the worse they end up being. |

Sometimes holding my breath works. Usually, though, it's a matter of forgetting about them for long enough for them to go away. |

First, hold your breath as long as possible. Then, have someone shoot a gun and miss your head by one inch. That will scare the hiccups away! |

Breath really slow and calm. really slow calm deep breaths, but not TOO deep. That always works for me. |

If the friend doesn't miss, the hiccups will go away too. |

Either hold your breath while drinking a glass of water, or just stick it out. |

Just try and relax and don't think about them. Take deep breaths and focus on steady breathing in and out.
Relax......... |

One teaspoon of granulated sugar. Let it dissolve. Deep, deep breaths, tighten the muscles in your chest and throat. Hold your breath. Concentrate on something else. Large gulps of water.
I get terrible, awful, painful hiccups. And if I get them in the morning, I'll get them off and on all day long. |

Drink a glass of water from the opposite side of the glass, with your thumbs in your ears (use your little fingers to pick up the glass). It's tricky, but it always works for me. |
