| Cleo | posted 3-Feb-2002 1:24am I like most of them,But for the life of me I can't remember which ones that I truly liked. 1)Da Vinci had some good stuff going on. 2)Degas art always looked like his stuff was melting, but very cool, tho. 3)Picasso's art looked as if he had to much going on in his head.Never cared for the 3 breasted woman piece.Very weird tortured, mind like kind of a dude. 4)Renior I've always liked his work.Least I understood where he was comming from. 5)Micheal ??? Well the guy painted the Sistine Chapel for god sake! He's the MAN! 6)Pizzaro,runs a close second to Degas & Picasso wrapped into one. 7) As for the other 2(Mary something or other & Munch) Never heard of them.*scratches her head** |

| kirsty | posted 3-Feb-2002 4:22am Adolphe-William Bouguereau is the ONLY artist I like. He painted this picture - which since I hate art is wonderful - it made me cry. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kirsty) posted 3-Feb-2002 7:11am Nice I bet you would also like this pre-raphaelite collection (if you don't mind nudity, like most of bouguereau's): http://www.mindworkshop.com/alchemy/indcnt.html Do you like Lawrence's Pinkie? http://www.huntington.org/ArtDiv/PinkiePict.html (photos never do it justice) You might also like the earlier work of this woman http://www.gdsorrento.com/artists/gallery/joanna_zjawinska_1.htm http://www.fingerhutart.com/zjawinska.htm (nothing on her sites compares to your Bouguereau though) |

| Zang | posted 3-Feb-2002 6:29pm Why isn't the "w" in "who" capitalised? Why are some artists listed with their full names, and others just by their last names? What kind of crap survey is this? Didn't we have a very similar one recently that was MUCH BETTER? |

| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Maarten) posted 4-Feb-2002 4:35am Just 20 seconds ago I was dismayed you had not responded. Very nice indeed. The bottom one was my favorite. You do see the goddess with the huge white head (hair over her eyes) and the fleshy body in the center, don't you? 1912? and did I have the title right? are they all called that? |
| Maarten | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 4-Feb-2002 8:23am The first one is called: Tree I The second one is called: Evening, Red Tree. Of the third one I couldn't the name. The fourth one is called: Flowering Apple Tree. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Maarten) posted 4-Feb-2002 12:53pm I believe that too is called Flowering Apple Tree, There was a I & II, and they differed by a year. I saw the third one in a show in SF. |

| kirsty | (reply to autumnlight) posted 5-Feb-2002 10:24pm Same way that you like art i guess |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kirsty) posted 5-Feb-2002 11:16pm You do too like art. It hasn't been about photo-accuracy since photography came out. Even then the dutch masters used optical tricks to make bodies seem to pop off the canvas in 3D, and the greeks curved their buildings to make them appear straight. It's about the ability to take you somewhere, perhaps someplace cerebrally complex built on layers of historical concepts, at others just an emotional flavor, but always a worldview is created, sometimes with just the right stroke of color. |
| autumnlight | (reply to kirsty) posted 6-Feb-2002 9:35am I dunno. Most people think of art as pictures and stuff, which I do appreciate having taken art at school, but a good song is art too. My favourite! |
