You may not sell it, nor charge admission to see it, nor use this piece of artwork for financial gain of any kind. It's just for your enjoyment. Nor may you destroy it or allow it to be destroyed. (Let's just say that it will magically disappear from your collection just before the harm is done or profit made- there is no one poking into your private business to see what you do with it).
If you could have any piece of artwork added to your life, what would it be? If you cannot decide, you can have a piece chosen for you in the medium of your choice.

| Gamera | posted 23-Dec-2001 10:50am I think John Singer Sargent's Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose would be nice in my dining room. |
| Gamera | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 10:58am Do you mean this one? That's really lovely! |
| Zang | posted 23-Dec-2001 11:18am "Christ of St. John of the Cross" by Salvador Dali. http://members.tripod.com/~chippit/dali_stjohn.html |
| juliw | (reply to Gamera) posted 23-Dec-2001 11:34am Yes. Thank you for posting it! It really is a beautiful paintimg. I just love his work. |
| spidertea | posted 23-Dec-2001 12:33pm A painting by Salvador Dali. |
| confetti | posted 23-Dec-2001 12:34pm WOW! GREAT SURVEY! I would like Degas' famous ballerina painting (I forget the name of it right now) where they're in rehearsal and just coming into the scene. I love that one. If I ever have a little girl I'd hang it in her room. |
| juliw | (reply to Zang) posted 23-Dec-2001 2:31pm That is a cool painting! |
| Biggles | posted 23-Dec-2001 2:32pm Da Vinci's cartoon (sketch) of St. Anne, Mary, Jesus and St. John the Baptist. There's love in that. |
| juliw | (reply to Zang) posted 23-Dec-2001 2:33pm That is a beautiful painting. It would make a nice note card. |

| mandy | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 4:11pm It is called The Beach at Trouville It's in the National Gallery, London |
| mandy | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 4:13pm Oh wait...there's a different one...I see... I like the one you picked better...it's light and airy |
| mandy | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 4:15pm The one you like is called La Promenade |
| juliw | (reply to mandy) posted 23-Dec-2001 5:19pm Thank you for giving me the names of the paintings. They are both so pretty. Have you been to the National Gallery? |
| mandy | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 5:37pm Not that I remember. I may have been dragged around it as a child but I think I'd remember. |
| mandy | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 5:38pm What other artists do you like? |
| juliw | (reply to mandy) posted 23-Dec-2001 5:56pm I like a lot of Impressionist stuff, but I am not familiar with that many artists. I also like the Peter Max greeting cards. |
| Zang | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 6:42pm It loses a lot of the impact having to scroll down to see it all. It is a very striking image when you can see Christ and the fishermen all at once. I like the contrast of the black and the shadows in the top section. It has a nice symmetry and incorporates an arrangement with very simple geometry. |
| Jemmy | posted 23-Dec-2001 7:22pm I think I'd have to research first. |
| juliw | (reply to Zang) posted 23-Dec-2001 7:27pm I also like the contrast of the black and the shadows. But what I like best is the three-dimensional aspect. It appears like you are looking at Christ and the fishermen from a mountaintop or something. |
| Gamera | (reply to Zang) posted 23-Dec-2001 8:47pm I like that one much better than his Crucifiction ("Hypercubic Body"), which is still pretty cool, but not as powerful. I have my screen at pretty high resolution and don't have to scroll to see the whole of the image you're linking to. It's powerful. |
| phi | posted 23-Dec-2001 9:15pm Tough call, between Flaming June and Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose. |
| phi | (reply to Gamera) posted 23-Dec-2001 9:19pm I disagree. We'd definitely have to paint the dining room; the green in there is too saturated and the trim color is all wrong. Oh, but it would be worth it. |
| Cleo | posted 23-Dec-2001 9:31pm If I can't have a piece of art work to have indefinitely then I don't want it.For me it's all or nothing. |
| Zang | (reply to juliw) posted 23-Dec-2001 11:53pm Yeah, it is like he's flying through the air right towards you. |
| Zang | (reply to Gamera) posted 24-Dec-2001 12:00am Yeah, I agree with you there. I like this one too: http://www.guggenheim-venice.it/english/03_Collections/Images/Ernst_1940_Attirement.htm and this one: http://www2.prestel.co.uk/youngjohns/delvaux/musee_spitzer.jpg |
| Gamera | (reply to phi) posted 24-Dec-2001 4:05am The dining room is the only room with a wall left in it big enough for it. Oh, except for my bedroom.... hmmmm.... |

| phi | (reply to Gamera) posted 24-Dec-2001 12:30pm Whatever room we put it in, we'd have to change the trim color. |
| Zang | (reply to jettles) posted 24-Dec-2001 6:27pm Unfortunately, no. I know of the museum of which you speak. My parents visited it several years ago. Some of my friends visited the one in Spain last year. |

| juliw | (reply to jettles) posted 25-Dec-2001 2:56pm I actually have the painting of the footbridge and water lily pond by Monet in my home. I bought a print of it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for about $10.00, then had a framer friend mount and frame it. We have it in the living room over the mantel. |

| autumnlight | posted 27-Dec-2001 12:09pm I would choose my own artwork, which is photographs paintings and drawings. |
| Gamera | (reply to Dino) posted 27-Dec-2001 10:17pm Would you hang it where you would see it every day?!? I think that would be hard to take. |
| Dino | (reply to Gamera) posted 28-Dec-2001 3:33am It would assimilate with the landscape of my mind. |
| kaleb777 | posted 28-Dec-2001 11:14am A sculpture that actually looks like something. None of that abstract crape. |
| mandy | (reply to Dino) posted 28-Dec-2001 2:05pm I absolutely love paintings and writings that describe/depict the hell of the authors/artists imagination. I love depictions of the "mouth " of hell. The Bosch one is very cool. |
| cuteasabutton | posted 28-Dec-2001 2:10pm Claude Monet JOUR D ETE. I am sure that I could find another if I search one out, but I like this one okay. |

| natsim | posted 2-Jan-2002 10:42pm It would be nice to have almost any painting by Marc Chagall. There are also a number of (not well known) artists that I enjoy, but I can't think of their names right off the top of my head. You know, I think I'd like it better if you just put me in a room with a whole lot of artworks and I could just choose one from those. I'm sure I'd find something that I'd enjoy. |
| Biggles | (reply to natsim) posted 3-Jan-2002 7:26am I love some of his work |
| Galomorro | posted 8-Jan-2002 8:11pm There is a Website called Novica and I like some of the paintings for sale there. |
| Gamera | (reply to Galomorro) posted 9-Jan-2002 1:10am Wow! that is an incredibly cool website! I like how weel the work is categorised and cross referenced and I love the way they do business. What do you like most from there? |
| Galomorro | (reply to Gamera) posted 10-Jan-2002 6:53pm There are some paintings by Brazilian artists available which I would love to have if I could afford it. I like the way artists from other countries can get attention at this site. |
