I've made some changes to the way Replies are implemented.
o The Replies page now shows you a list of all the replies you've ever gotten here. The list starts from the most recent, then works backward, 5 replies per page. So, you'll never lose track of a reply again.
This is quite different from how it used to work, but I think it's ultimately better.
o Comments are now displayed in a common way, in a number of places, including this new Replies page.
- You will notice that if a comment is a reply it will now say "(reply to username)" in the top left.
- If you click the "(reply to username)" link, it should bring you to the original comment that is being replied to (for reference).
o When on the Replies page, you will need to use either the "(quoted)" or "reply" links on the right side of the comment's header line. This will open a new page with a box for you to enter a reply.
o In general, it's better to use either the "(quoted)" or "reply" links when responding to a comment. When you do, it helps the system know exactly which comment you are responding to.
o There is still a "Reply To: [pop-up]" above most comment boxes (e.g. at the bottom of a survey). If you use that, the system will assume you are responding to the last comment that person made in that survey (not always accurate).
... I'll probably make some more changes to this, to make it better. Though, I'm not quite sure which direction to go in.
o I could try to bring back showing the original comment the reply was in response to, though I'm not sure how to fit that into what I have for showing all your replies. It could get messy. Plus, I'm not sure it's really needed most of the time.
o I could try to figure out which replies are new vs. old, but at this point I'm not sure that's essential. The new Replies page is fairly clear as is, I think.
Anyway, let me know what you think... I know it's a big change, but hopefully this will resolve some problems we were having. | judgescratch

I liked seeing the original comment the reply was in response to, but I'll get used to it soon enough. It's all about adaptation | Wolfgang

At first, it appeared confusing....as their were five replies on my first page and they didn't have a survey ajoining them so I was a bit lost. First, I thought all five replies were from the same survey...but a survey post did not appear. I was cautious to enable anything for fear I would lose the replies...as happened in the old system, i believe. But, after a few moments...it all straightened out (I think). | freebird

it takes some getting used to. I had the same thought as Wolfgang but wasn't sure until I read his post. It will work out fine, I think. | cerealkiller

Definitely weird as Wolfgang said. Very confusing at first, and it is strange not knowing what survey or comment they are replying to. But, you get used to change and in time it will seem normal.
I still don't like the new forum look. Maybe it's just not appealing to the eye. In theory it does work better. Just not aesthetically pleasing. | darkshadowsseeker

I'm glad I read this. I clicked on the replies earlier and was kinda confused! | Biggles

I just clicked on it and went all the way back to the first replies I ever got at SC (from mandy). For some reason, I've never read them before, the replies were below the line for "new comments". Was there a replies feature back in 2000? If there was, I must not have realised when I was first here. How exciting!!

I like it. I wish there were a convenient way to get to the survey that the reply is in, though. | LindaH

Doesn't it get you there when you click on (reply to romkey) ? | romkey

Yes, you're right! I'm not really sure what I thought that link would do.

I think I might try to bring back the way it used to work (survey link, original comment - 1 per page)... for new replies. Then, if you have no new replies, it will show you the old replies list (like it does now). I'm not sure I can pull that off, but I think that it might be better if I can. | DucKid
