I can't get chat to work with Mozilla. Works perfectly with IE. For what it's worth.

I was having the same trouble earlier today. I think it worked okay with Firefox a couple of months ago.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll look into it and get back to you.

Is your stomach bug reproducible? Can you give me a link to it? What stomach browser are you using?

Why do you even have a chat thing here? Most of the time I see only one person there, apparently waiting for someone else to join them? Or are they chatting with themself?

I love the chat room. Ironically I used it when I had more time to screw around but I had dial up. Now I have faster speed but no time :(
I like to know it's there, to know that there is another little room off to the side I imagine it to be comfortable, quiet and safe (I can't see if anyone is J/O)

I imagine it like a stream of glowing green 1's and 0's flowing in streams, yet also implying a three-dimensional structure of a living room with a comfy chair, two sofas and a little table with a book in front of a fireplace.

I imagine it like an open plan (but not overly pleasant) office with wooden desks with black tops and rather bulky old-fashioned computers with cream/beige cases - probably because I've often chatted with icurok while he was at work and for some reason that's what I picture. It's like reading a book and being able to see it in your mind's eye. And then getting a shock when you see the film version of the book, or the illustrator's take when they are completely different to what you had imagined. I bet icurok has a much nicer computer to work at than the ones I picture (which are practically museum pieces)!

Then if anyone else joins the chat, the room shifts to reflect them somehow - in the same way that I tend to read some people's comments and visualise them in a particular way. So Rockman brings an open wooden porch at the front of a ranch, Fordguy is leaning on the bonnet (hood) of a big Ford, with a beer in his hand and grass around his feet (think he's posted a few photos like that here) though never wearing pantyhose! Bill is in a room with reduced light (not dark, but no beams of bright light coming in) with a cluttered desk, maybe a snack in a bowl and couple of gingerish cats rubbing against his legs (whereas jen is somewhere very light, with pale walls and large windows, and often with a pencil and ruler to hand). LindaH is bathed in light at the kitchen table trying to ignore all of the noise coming from the (much darker) living room which is where my viewpoint is and which has a brown carpet with pale walls, there are toys and random bits of clothing strewn here and there but in a cluttered family way rather than a dirty/life of grime way, the TV is on and the glare from it is very obvious, but there is no sound, the children are very active and the husband is slumped and silent on the cream-coloured sofa. They is at a semi-circular desk, with a hands-free headset in her living room - her computer takes up most of the desk (what is my obsession with ancient computers?) and always has a chat window up on it. Although sometimes they is sitting on her (white painted) front porch, with her legs stretched in front of her (and her special boots on) and with Autumn leaves swirling around her as she surveys the garden - sometimes Mary is sitting with her. Cerealkiller is in his kitchen - lots of pale painted cabinets and a narrow breakfast bar, attached to the wall at one end, with a mottled brown top. There are perhaps five or six cats around his feet and one on the worktop as he prepares their food. Enheduanna is somewhere really quite dark (a bedroom) with a strange orangey glow - she has a laptop, but the light from it doesn't light up her face. Occasionally she is sitting on an olive green sofa, with her laptop on her knee - it's a lot lighter there.

Am I making myself sound crazy? Do others do this, or is a weird kind of synaethesia?

Biggles... very close. Got a built in shelf in the dining room, kind of a hole in the wall between the entry and dining room, with a big shelf in it. Computer is on that. Lately I'm on the bedroom computer though.

Living room carpet is blue, walls are brown and couch is black. but yeah, it is dark. No one ever turns the book area light on.

Sorry to smash the illusion. You're right about it being open plan, but it looks more like this...
