clo8275 posted new comments in some surveys, and I'm wondering why they didn't show up in 'whats new'

Isn't it that they don't show when the survey isn't active?

I think Melf is right. That survey is inactive.

Ok thanks. So is there a selector for seeing any survey with new postings?

Inactive? What constitutes that? I can still post in it. Seems to me, in the past, when a survey was inactive; you couldn't do anything with it except read it.

Inactive New ?

A survey being Inactive doesn't change it that much anymore. People can still vote on it and comment on it. I think it just doesn't show up in What's New.

This issue was that we'd get these waves of someone going through old surveys and it caused everyone's What's New to explode, for no good reason (or something like that).

I was thinking then 'Ooh, I'll put it on my bar thingy, go through 'em all.'
Then I saw this:

Surveys - (54.9% ave rating) - 1 to 10 of 20249 catch-up - Next 10

A few months back I went through all of those inactive surveys. I was tempted by catch-up but I held off. Then again, I didn't have over 20,000.

Wow, kudos. I've been through about 200, so far. Which doesn't actually sound too bad, it only took about three quarters of an hour. That's 75 hours... about three and a half days. Solid.

It's odd. I'm in Nov 2006 at the moment. It's going to be strange travelling backwards before my time.

Biggles did something like this a while back, answering a lot of old surveys. I think she said it was pretty interesting to see how people changed over the years.

I've not noticed, so far. But it's sort of inevitable.
I think I've really calmed down. Every other word was 'cool' two years ago.

I've been ploughing through some more old surveys recently - I had no idea that Inactive New existed until this thread appeared! I've been mostly looking at ones from just before I joined SC, though I do tend to bounce around a lot and just pick a random survey number to stick in the address line. I did find it interesting seeing how the surveys about quite day-to-day things seemed to be frowned on in the early days of SC - although that may just have been because Richard (Hare Krishna Richard) was making a tonne of them. Also interesting to find the few surveys that seem to have brought most of the one-off-posters to the site - the first pantyhose survey has about 20 replies from people who are never heard of again, talking about their love of pantyhose!
