There was this insect inside my living room (sort of resembles a wasp, just that its abdomen is black with thin yellow stripes). I try to get it out by waving newspaper. Little crap goes where the drapes are, so I can't really get a good swing at it. So, after telling myself I don't know how many times not to grab it and throw it out, what do I do? I grab it and it stings me.
I never learn with insects because I don't have a particular fear of them. My finger now hurts. |

No. This thing is narrower and very black. I don't think I can locate a picture of it, I don't know how and where.
Is it normal for your arm to sort of hurt after a bite?
I've never been bitten by anything before (except spiders, flies, and mosquitos) so I really don't know what to expect. |

This has pictures of different kinds of wasps. The links are on the right side of the page. http://www.everythingabout.net/articles/biology/an... |

Everyone reacts to stings differently. Usually just local swelling, pain. The worst reaction would be anaphylactic shock, and if you were going to have it you wouldn't be typing this right now. It hits very quickly after the sting, dizziness and difficulty breathing. I imagine that your arm hurting isn't a major deal as long as it gets better. When I got stung on the top of my foot my whole foot swelled up and took a couple days to go down. |

eloradanan - it could've been Spider or Potter wasp. Thanks for the link.
Pennyann - the pain is mostly gone by now. Anaphylatic shock sounds scary. My biggest concern was the pain. Sometimes I get pain in my left arm or pactoralis major (I looked up the name of the muscle). I don't know why I get it. I never got tested for anything, but my doctor said there could be something wrong with my muscles. I thought when I got stung I might've triggered something already wrong. |

I hope you feel better. I've been stung before & it really sucks. It doesn't look as though you're allergic, so that's a good thing. |

That link was cool.... out here we have at least three species of wasps and two species of hornets. |

I hate them all. It's one thing getting stung by a honey bee, but a wasp can sting you time after time. |

AND they bite, too!! So they can give it from both ends. |

I didn't know that. Another reason for me to hate them. |
