The word homophobic literally means "afraid of gay people". I am not afraid of gay people, so using the term homophobic is wrong. The way you're using it, it would be like saying that someone who hates sitcoms is "sitcomophobic", even though they aren't afraid of them, they just don't like them. Likewise, I don't agree with homosexuals, but I am not afraid of homosexuals, so I am not homophobic. | Biggles

Literal meanings are rarely what words actually mean. Language evolves - or had you not realised that? | kaleb777

I don't care what gays do in the sack, and I wish them happiness and equality, but they really fudgeed up with the word "homophobic". It does not mean afraid of homosexuals. It really doesn't have a meaning that makes sense at all. I wish people would change it to 'gayphobic' or something that means what they are trying to say. | SueBee

The American Heritage Dictionary defines homophobia as: "Fear of OR CONTEMPT FOR lesbians and gay men."
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines homophobia as: "Irrational fear of, aversion to, or DISCRIMINATION AGAINST homosexuality or homosexuals."
