Christmas is over - my goal - stay drunk through New Year's. Eh? Sound good? Only problem is $10 a day for a bottle of bourbon. Fudge it, worth the money. Only problem is figuring out why I'm laughing and crying at the same time....................
I'd say Happy New Year but with that monkey in the White House it's highly unlikely and because I likely owe the IRS a ton of money. Fudge, out of bourbon, back to the store................................................... | Iseult

Don't you smoke? You're probably spending just as much a day for that habit.
And I'm sorry, but 10$ a day for bourbon is really cheap, compared to what we pay in Canada. I'm assuming you're talking about 26er - that would be good $30 here. | llamamama

I'm concerned that he's going to the store.

Generally people can drive okay when they're drunk, as long as they've had practice and they're not too drunk. Actually, don't listen to me. Just talking from experience. I've never driven drunk, but I've gotten in the car with people who are wasted. | FauxLo

Yeah, I smoke. It's $6.12 including tax for one pack, per day. Never heard of 26er. I only drink Kentucky bourbon. A 1.75 liter of Jack Daniels is over $30, which would last two nights. So I settle for Evan Williams which is $16.95 for 1.75 L.
Remember, I drink the equivalent of at least 4 'regular' shots per drink, at least 1 per hour. After a couple of hours I'm feeling good and bad. Meaning - laughing and crying at the same time. My mind gets so fudgeed up it doesn't know if its happy or sad.
If I stop at that point within an hour I feel totally straight again. Liquor doesn't hold with me.
I feel guilty all the time about spending anything on myself. Especially if it means being short, spending money I wouldn't normally, etc.
Plus, I've been kinda sick for almost a week - sore throat, feeling yucky, etc. At least the bourbon numbs the throat. I just had two cups of coffee, each with a big hit of bourbon and feel nothing from it. Today I started around 2:30, was pretty buzzed by 4:30. Ate dinner at 6:00, then it started raining and shorted out the Christmas lights on the reindeer in the front yard. By 7 pm I was totally sober again after trying to figure out the lights. Went to the store, bought the king size bourbon, more smokes and am thinking at almost 10pm not worth getting buzzed again. Feeling yucky again, sore throat coming back. Wonder why that is when you're sick you always feel worse at night?
Crap, y'all should come over here. I bought way too much food for the holidays, like as if the kids and grandkids were still around. No way my wife and I can eat all the appetizers, sausages, cheese, meatballs, shrimp, crab and boxes of crackers. It'll take all next week eating only that to finish off everything. I still have two large containers of cookie dough I never made, and put a cherry pie in the freezer. No way I can even think of eating that. | Iseult

26er - a bottle that has 26 oz, which is less than a liter.
What cigarettes do you smoke? Whenever I'm in New York, I pick up a pack of Parliaments which costs me about $7 (in Canada I pay around $10 for 25 pack of Belmonts). I think that cigarette prices vary by the state.
I know what you mean about alcohol. It also has a dual effect on me if I drink when I'm not feeling good. When I'm in a good mood, it makes me feel better, but if I'm depressed I'll start crying (and laughing at the same time, like you were saying).
I wish I had lots of food. I've been ordering pizza for the past week because I'm too lazy to walk to the grocery store and buy food. The car is still unusable - it has no insurance and it's nor registred to the province I live in. Oh, and I forgot, I don't have a full driver's licence, but that shall change soon because the driving examiners finally started working again after four and a half month long strike.
I want to finally feel like a person and drive up to wherever I'm going instead of waiting for the bus that comes every 45 minutes. | cerealkiller

I smoke Benson & Hedges menthol. Until recently when California jacked up the tax they were like $4.75 a pack of twenty. Hah, in 1974 when I worked part-time at a gas station while in college cigs were 3 packs for $1.00.
In my town there are no liquor stores. You either buy it at the grocery store or in convenience stores/gas stations. Hard liquor you can only get at the grocery store and there is only one which closes at midnight.
A 750ml bottle of decent bourbon runs about $10.00. I think the same goes for most other liquors like vodka, scotch, etc. I know brandy is cheaper, like $7.00 for 750ml unless you're going for top shelf stuff. In general I rarely buy liquor and don't even go down the liquor aisle.
Seems too expensive to live in Canada. You guys make less, your dollar is worth less and everything costs more. That's socialism for you, eh? Someone has to pay for that great healthcare you have, eh? | EyesOfCharisma

Don't forget our 7% federal tax on almost everything you buy plus the provincial tax on top. However, the Canadian dollar and the American dollar are almost on par right now. I have about $150 American in my wallet for my just in case money which I'm not exchanging until I can get a better rate (or I'm down in the States and I spend it).
I don't mind the way things are in Canada. I don't mind the high tax, at least not at this point in my life. When I start earning 100K or more and half of that gets taken away by the government, I'll start doging. | Iseult
