Here is another example of our fudgeed up economy. Our school board is having an emergency meeting to address the following

They need to reduce the transportation budget by either 1) charging each student $1.00 a day to ride the bus OR reduce the number of busses by having three high school students to a seat, I hear it can be a tight fit with two students to a seat.

They will not provide transportation for student athletes for away games anymore.

They want to reduce the number of teachers by keeping only teachers who are able to teach more than one subject.

do away with special ed services.

I just don't get why education is getting so many cuts. And whatever happened to using the lottery money to fund our schools? I'll admit that I don't know alot about politics but, this really sucks!

I guess people can make do with most of these cuts, but doing away with special ed services? So what happens to them? They get tossed into regular classes and fail or just get tossed aside and kicked out of school?

I guess they will be put into the now overcrowded class rooms, so much for the "No student left behind"

I was 'left behind'. I wish they would have had that when I was in school... I still ::hangs head:: don't know how to do division!!! Thank god for calculators. There is a lot of other stuff I don't know... I just fell in the cracks. Then they stuck me in the ED class.

The whole "we'll use lottery money for schools" thing was always a scam. Let's say a state spends $100M on schools. The lottery is introduced and it makes $40M profit, to go to the schools. So now the state spends $60M on schools plus the $40M from the lottery.

Conversely, if the revenue from the lottery exceeds the school budget, they'll just use the money for something else, rather than locking it in in case of future cost increases.

Also, labjog, I hear ya. My state is cutting the fudge out of the education funding. Well, high education at least. They're cutting the higher education budget, so that tuition, room and board, and "special fees" increases; and also some programs and new professors get getting laid off. Whew, good thing I graduated a year ago.

To be fair, at least they're starting with the bullcrap majors first, rather than cutting all across the board. Real classes are next though.

I didn't realise that was how the lottery works, what a scam. What really bothers me is getting rid of some excellent teachers and adding more students per teacher Plus, mainstreaming the special ed kids. These teachers are going to be so overwelmed that education is going to go down the drain.

Well we elected, TWICE, a fudging MORON to the Governors mansion.
