Yesterday morning, I woke up at 5am to screaming from Mary's bedroom. The cats had caught a mouse and were torturing it in her room. She woke up to the sound of the mouse's screams.... so I guess we're even.

It was tiny, but I was tired and didn't see it very close. I chased the cats out, turned around to grab a box lid from one of her games, and turned back to the mouse. It was gone. I looked around for it and couldn't find it. I went back to bed...... feeling like he probably got away.

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon around 4:00. I am heading to the bathroom and as I pass Mare's room, there it is. Just sitting right in the middle of the floor. I thought it was dead.

I walk up to it and take a look and it's just barely breathing. I scooped it into the box lid from the night before.... and put it where the cats wouldn't bother it. I tossed in a squirrel peanut, in case it was hungry and went back to work for a couple hours. After work, I get a closer look.

It's a baby!! His eyes are still shut. One of them is seeping from a cat injury, but he has fur and is still breathing. I decided to see what I could do. I warmed some milk and with a small syringe, I tried to get him to drink. He drank!! He wrapped his tiny little baby paws around the tip and drank it. I washed his eye the best I could with warm water, and because he seemed to like the warmth of my hand, I tucked him into my bra while I did everything I needed to around the house. He just stayed curled in a sweet little ball.

I made him a nest in a box on a heating pad and I went to bed, hoping he would make it through the night.

I woke up in the middle of the night to see if he was breathing. He was a little more wiggly... and very hungry. He ate warm milk until he fell back asleep in my hand. This morning, he was still alive. He's moving around * smile * He wasn't moving at all yesterday.

I just have to hope his eye will be okay and won't get infected, but I think I have him at least partially rehydrated. He's pooping even.

Yay * love * . Wishing for life. * smile *

Aww, thats something I would do! I brought a baby mouse to work once tucked in my bra, nobody even new it. I would go in the bathroom at feeding time. Mine lived and I let it go in the field, so cool!!!

Wow excellent. It's a good job this mouse wasn't in an experimental lab!

But call up a vet and take some advice. Maybe there is something you could do to help it.

Also, in the UK, any wild animal taken to the vet does not cost anything, because it is wild. Would you consider taking it to a vet to be sure? Don't worry, they wouldn't think you were silly (I know some people think it embaressing to take a small animal in- but I know you wouldn't) * smile *

Well done They, I like you even more now * smile *

labjog: that's awesome * smile * What did you feed him? Everything online mentions formula.... but mine is doing seemingly well on what I had in the house: cow's milk.

EOC: Well, I can't put it out in the cold. I can't re-release it in the house to be killed. The aquarium it will be..... if he lives. I have a 38 gallon with a hood - aka. a mouse mansion. Maybe we'll find him a friend. Winter isn't over yet.

Wicksy: I researched it online. Most vets here wouldn't help me for free. I can't really afford to take my pets there when it's needed (even when I do), and so it's not really an option.

He's actually crawling up my arm now...... he just gets better by the hour, it seems.

I really hope his eye is okay. It is no longer seeping.

I fed him what I feed most of the mammal babies I get, Formula made for baby farm animals, if its a meat eater I blend an egg in it for more protien, if its mainly a seed eater I add baby rice cereal.

Actually, they've told me at the sex shop that the best batteries to be used are the cheap ones because good ones can damage the vibrator.

In my experience, a vibrator with cheap batteries does not vibrate as hard as one with expensive batteries. At least, mine doesn't. Also, cheap vibrators EAT cheap batteries. Lithiums last a long while.

I don't care if I run my vibrator down. It's worth it for the power. Besides, I have back-ups * evil smile *

Wicksy: It's crazy. He went from being this pathetic limp thing that wouldn't move or barely breathe, sealed shut eyes and one eye all gummy and bloody...... on Tuesday...... to being this jumpy little wild animal with one eye wide open and the other one possibly permanently blinded. It's no longer gummy or bleeding though.

He no longer wants me to hold him and pees on us or tries to run if we pick him up. He is obviously feeling much better. He already quit accepting milk and has graduated to bread and water. He doesn't like any other food that I've tried to give him. He might be older than I originally suspected, because he was so dehydrated, skinny, and limp when I found him a few days ago. He looks bigger already.

I took a couple pictures but they aren't great.... because, like I said... he won't let me hold him anymore. He's still in the bucket until I get some better digs for him this weekend. If, by spring, he still dislikes us, I may let him go outside. We will see what happens.

I will upload the pictures tonight. I wish I had 'before' pics. The difference in him now is shocking.

I couldn't get a good one to show how mangled his right eye is. Also, I imagine the camera flash was annoying and/or painful, so I stopped trying.

Do you have another way of keeping him. Looking at his home right now, it seems like he only has a small area in which to walk in?

I will be moving him to an aquarium today. He didn't need/want to move around when he was sick. He would have climbed out of any box I had. The bucket was necessary.

Can you find another mouse so they can mate.

All babies can be named after SC users with names such as Frostband, cerealkiller and EyesofCharisma!!!

If they mated, the babies would be snake food because I'd have to take them to a pet shop.

So.... no. When it gets big enough to be able to tell if it's a male/female.... I might get a same sex pal.
