My doc gave me advair diskus on Monday. I have never felt so bad in my life once I started taking that crap... besides when I had west nile. Each dose made me feel worse. Dang. Has anyone else ever taken that and had crappy side effects? I skipped my dose this morning, called the doc and asked if he can give me something else. GEEZ!!! I'd rather have the mild lack of oxygen than take that stuff. |

What kinds of side effects were you having? My BNF (British National Formulary) doesn't have many short term effects listed (a couple of things are listed that *could* be short-term, but they are described as very rare) - just the usual long-term side-effects of corticosteroids. Just curious, as I'm supposed to be keeping a notebook of any new drugs that I come across, and as far as I know Beclomethasone Dipropionate preparations are used most commonly here - I haven't heard of Fluticasone Propionate or Salmeterol (which are what Advair contains) before. |

After 1 dose, I felt queasy and had some pretty uncomfortable muscle pain. After the 2nd dose I started having joint aches, elbows, knees and even my face hurt, more severe muscle aches, chest pain, dry mouth and everything started tasting funny when I ate or drank. After dose 3 (last night) I started having fast heart rate, severe cramps in my stomach, worsening pain, severely itchy skin and I was wide awake all night, not even the least bit tired. I am still not the least bit groggy. I skipped this morning's dose and feel much better, no more aches, pains, cramps, etc. |

yes it is bad. It was like the regular flu at first but I had severe chills and my hands went numb. I was sick (flu like) about 2 weeks and gradually got worse before I got better. I could barely move my neck at all.
The worst thing was the constant pressure/aches and feeling like I had brain swelling and little bugs moving around on the back of my head, back of neck, shoulder blades... just a weird tingle but worse, with pressure. I could barely walk when I went to the doctor. |

Advair sounds like it sucks. I wonder if it is new. If it makes that many people feel bad (most who use it) it probably won't be around long. |

What makes you think that most people who use it suffer badly from it? |

My friend, who has COPD and uses oxygen, takes Advair and has no side effects at all. She said Spiriva didn't help her at all. I don't think it's new.
A lot do have bad side effects, if you look on medications.com at the comments under side effects. Not most, just a lot. |

I'd take that website with a pinch of salt - I read down a few pages and some people only seem to have developed symptoms after reading about them on that site! Plus, there are probably thousands (at least) of people on that medication, and only 150 posts (of which some are actually people saying they have had no problems) so it does depend on what your definition of "a lot" is. However, even if you were to take all of those posts very seriously, most of them are talking about well-documented long-term side-effects of steroids, which are rather different from what you experienced, and aren't necessarily related to this specific drug (as they could equally be caused by any inhaled steroid). |

It seems that one generates a lot of comments compared to most of the other drugs listed on the site, though. Could be just more prescribed and that's why. |
