In this survey Matty replies to cgtree, but it shows up as a reply to me. I realize people accidentally do that, but when you click on my name in mattys reply, it links to CGTREE's comment.

It doesn't bother me at all, I'm just wondering how?

I see what you mean, on the comment where Matty says, "Your wish is granted; you're a jackass. Long live Jombie." It has your username on the reply, but it links to CGTREE's comment and is clearly a reply to it.

I'm not sure how I could determine how it happened. 10 years ago, maybe there was some rare bug?

I'm looking at it a bit now... honestly, I barely understand how it's suppose to work since it has been so long since I looked at it.

Actually, I just found another comment that replies to CGTEE's same jackass comment by has your username. It's from verouge and starts, "Hi Joalis..." In that case, he seemed to be replying to you (unlike Matty's reply), but it's linking the wrong comment...

I think part of what happened is that verouge's reply to you was wrong/bad data. It links CGTREE's jackass comment, but it recorded your userid. I'm not sure why that happened. But, when the system goes to display comments/replies, it keeps a list of which replies go to which person's comments. And, it appears verouge's bad data overwrote the Matty "Jombie" reply which was otherwise good data (it has CGTREE's userid in the reply).

Logically, there's only one owner of a comment being replied to, so the system doesn't fuss over conflicts. But, there was a conflict here since verouge's reply had bad data. On my test server, I deleted the reply linkage on verouge's comment, and it fixed Matty's (it now says "reply to CGTREE").

Really, what's wrong with verouge's reply is that it points to the comment ID of CGTREE's jackass comment. It should probably have the comment ID of one of your comments, but it's hard to tell which one.

I don't think I have a way to figure out why that glitch happened.

I could fix the database for this (just link verouge's reply to the last comment you made in that survey perhaps), if you want. You said it doesn't bother you, so it's OK to just leave it.

Maybe we'll find other cases of this bug? I think I could actually write a script to go looking for them. But, I'm not sure it's a great idea since it doesn't matter that much...

Yeah it's no biggie. I was mostly just curious about it.
