Is this little community (Survey Central) very cliquish and doesn't welcome newcomers too much?

Back to Survey

The above question is adapted from a comment made by a new user who had their survey voted 'hopelessly flawed' in qualification. This is the last feedback message they left: http://surveycentral.org/feedback/1872.html

Bill why don't you just force the survey through? I didn't know it was your survey. I think certain people act like a clique but I do not see myself as part of that. I also don't think that the people that I think act like a clique participate in Qual. that much.

Yes, the wording is a bit awkward, but that is how the new user had phrased it, so I thought it was appropriate. I think the meaning is still clear. No, I don't think cliquish is a word, but that is how the new user spelled it. Part of what I'm trying to do with this survey is turn the genuine, untranslated feelings of this new users into a survey where we regular users can discuss this potential problem. The reality is that this new user will likely never come back to SC. Is that OK?
The question text came from a feedback posting (see link in the explanation), not from the HF'd survey itself (which was deleted due to the HF votes).
I think it's not too hard to tell when a survey is created by an outsider, especially for regular users who have come to expect certain traits in surveys. These traits are missing in newbie surveys and thus you know. Silly or not, I think this survey is a valid discussion topic for SC users. If you think this new user was dead wrong and crazy, then you can express this opinion when the survey is released.
I do not intend this survey to be a pesonal attack. Rather, I think this event (a new user leaving in disgust) is worthy of triggering some self-analysis and reflection on the part of SC users. As the site's admin, I may feel that it's my duty to do this.
As far as I know, this new user never edited to clear nw votes. That is a problem (really, more of an annoyance that rarely gets the author what they want), one that is hard to address, but I don't think it's relevant to this case.
This new user had their new survey HF'd out of existence. Their original posting to the feedback was "What happened to my survey?!" How was HFing their survey 'only trying to help'? ...as the site admin, I think this draws into question the validity of HF votes - maybe I should drop those too.
Yes, there have been surveys and discussion on this topic before. I seem to recall 'insular' being a word that we pondered. I think it's useful to re-examine this issue from time to time. If we are scaring away new users, is that what we really want?

I think this should be reworded, but there have been surveys like this in the past.

This is in a way a survey making a personal atack on people. I have only been on survey centrel since about march 2000, and I do read the comments that other people make. Now it has come to have been in numoris places that several of the New users to SC are not excepting peoples sugestions and just clearing the needs work votes. I am not accusing you or anyone person of this but this kind of behaviour is not exceptible. As a final mesage to the New people we the ones who submit our comments in Qulification are only trying to help you out.

I think this survey needs to go. It is silly that anyone would think there survey got deleted in qualification because it was created by a newbie. Noone knows who creates these surveys unless the creator tells someone. this is ridiculous to say the least. The comments made in feedback were obviously made by someone who does not understand how SC or Qualification works. Which is very understandable especialy if they were new since Qualification is kinda complicated.

I don't agree with putting comments from the HF survey in this survey. It really has nothing to do with us at SC being Cliquish or not. Cliquish...is that even a word? Klikwish this is how it sounds if you say it how you have it spelled.

It sounds funny the way this is worded. Is there a better way to ask this, I wonder?
