cody - Your "killing" example is a bad one. The first case is considered murder (and would be prosecuted), the second is considered self-defense (and probably wouldn't be prosecuted). You'll note that the definition of "murder" includes "unlawful killing...especially with malice". Self-defense is not unlawful, and it's rarely with malice.

I agree that you should differentiate between different types of murder. Your explanation text definition of "murder" is very broad (and rightfully so). Most people who believe in the death penalty believe in shades of grey, not black and white, and all you're giving to choose from in black and white.

Furthermore, The reason you need an "other" option is as follows: It is my opinion, that we should punish criminals, not crimes. People should only be put to death on the basis of their character, as defined by their actions over a large amount of time. Not solely based on their actions in one event. Example: Drug dealer shoots an undercover cop: kill him. IN a crime of passion a woman shoots her abusive boyfriend... probation.

My point is, that The only real choice I have on your survey is to abstain. There is no suitable option for me.

In addition to that, There is no option to cover the opinion which I predict belongs to the majority of SC users.. "No crime is a capital crime."

Im not going to check needs work again, because it will just piss you off, but I believe that some murders are capital and some arent. So what do I chose? Do I check the box, or no? At the very least, include something in your explanation to tell me whether to chose it or not.

It doesn't need an "Other" option because I'm asking "Which of the following..."

I'm not going to start breaking down all the answers into "some" and "all" answers. I've given definitions for all of them in the explanation, so it works fine the way it is.

daver - No, I'm asking which of the above, if any, you consider capital crimes. It's fine in this category.

natsim - I'm only asking about these crimes, not any others. If you can think of another crime that should be on the list as a possible capital crime, then please post that here.

If you are asking (as you appear to be) which crimes are capital crimes, this should be in the quiz category.
If you asking which we think should be capital crimes, say so, and leave it in ethics/morality.

Natsim: That isn't what this survey is restriced to the crimes on the list - not about opinions towards the death sentence. I think your suggestion could only be classed as a nitpick

Needs an "I don't think any crime is a capital crime"
