According to my dictionary capital=the city capitol=no such word. I would expect it to be in my dictionary if it was an English word, so I suspect it must be American. |

My 1932 US Funk & Wagnalls says capital = chief city, capitol = building. Which seems to be what the survey entirely say's. |

If the Dictionary says it's with an "o," than it is with an "o." |

Not if they are talking about the capital city it doesn't. |

Actually, Capital refers to the head of a sentence (hence, capitalized). Capitol refers to what the survey's creator is talking about. |

"Capital" is the city, "Capitol" is the building that houses the parliament/council/senate/congress/duma/whetever they call it in your country.
If you mean the former, you need to spell it right! If you mean the latter, you need to add an explanation, as not every country uses the word "capitol". |
