How would you answer the "Fish-And-Chips sign" question?
Would the sentence "I want to put a hyphen between the words Fish and And and And and Chips in my Fish-And-Chips sign" have been clearer if quotation marks had been placed before Fish, and between Fish and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and Chips, as well as after Chips?

| pcpr | N/A | posted 7-Apr-2000 2:33am ILJ: thanks; it makes no difference to me, so I changed it. The original "question" was from a fortune cookie, as I mentioned in the explanation.sequel: the original question sounds silly and is hard to work out; I don't mean to make this into a serious deep thoughts survey, but I got several extreme responses from different people and I am curious what SC users have to say about it. It's mostly for entertainment only. mandy: I hope you don't slit your throat, I'd miss you too much; could we settle for "Argh!"? All: again thanks for all the sugestions; I'm willing to put some work into this and get it out but I am not willing to bug people here so if you think it should be killed just say so and I can delete this and we move on with our merry lives. |

| nihon | old | posted 7-Apr-2000 1:49am It ll makes sense, but only if you really pay attention. Kind of like: I feel a little more like I do now than I did a little while ago. |
| sequel | old | posted 6-Apr-2000 11:52pm What ILJ said. AND same problem as before, this isn't just silly, it's nonsense. |
| ILJ | old | posted 6-Apr-2000 6:25pm I might be arguing too serious-minded a point for such a silly survey (nothing wrong with silly surveys) but the word "Wouldn't" in the explanation text is biased. It implies the survey creator's opinion and should be changed to "Would." |

| pcpr | old | posted 5-Apr-2000 7:51pm While I agree that Phi's sugestion would make a better survey, I wanted to find out how people react to this particular question. |
| phi | old | posted 5-Apr-2000 7:47pm A better survey would be "how many of the same word can you place adjacent to each other and have it still make sense", in the Quiz category. You could give the 10 "had"s one (Ann, where Bob had had "had", had had "had had"; "had had" had been the correct answer) as an example.Failing that, at least change the "&" to and "and" in the survey title! |
