This is my own supposition, nothing to attribute, just common sense. The supposition is that Iran took a look at what happened when Iraq voluntarily disarmed and opened itself to inspectors, and determined that the only safe defense against the US's request to disarm was to further prepare to defend itself instead, as with their recent missile testing.

Matty	reasonable	posted 11-Jul-2008 9:14am     The question posed is reasonable enough, given your reference, but the problem with common sense is that it usually makes no sense, and it isn't very common to people who understand the issue. Though your survey is reasonably constructed, and I won't vote against it again, the reason I asked you to clarify this is that our problems with Iran go back much further that our call for inspections. Our problems with Iran date back to the 50s when the company propped up the Shaw of Iran because he was right-wing. So, I was wondering about quite a few aspects of our relationship with Iran when you posed the question. This is infinitely more complicated than you are indicationg in your survey, especially considering Israel's involvement. But again, please understand I don't want, nor did I want with my previous post, to halt your survey. Instead, waht I wanted was to understand your focus.
