When you come to a "four-way" stop, what is the rule?

Back to Survey

I could ask 5 people and get 5 different answers. Assuming you are not the only vehicle at the intersection, what do you think?

kaleb777: Does it matter? Because that is what I want you and/or others to explain. Are you already saying there are different rules depending if you are turning or going straight? Those are the things I want YOU to tell me. Also does it matter how many vehicles? Does that change the rule? This is exactly why I wrote the survey. Please just do your best at explaining what you think (or know) is supposed to happen. You may give your own scenario if you like, but if a rule exists, it shall exist no matter where you are going or how many vehicles there are. If not, then that is what I would love for you (all) to explain.

I agree with kaleb777. Also, how many vehicles are there?

Is everyone going straight ahead or are some turning left or right? That affects the rule.

Ok, made it multi pick and changed some of the wording in the options. How is it now?

 * laughing out loud * When you "assume" you make an "ass" out of "u" and "me". * winking raspberry * I might suggest that you consider make it multiple pick if you don't plan to change anything else. That way someone could say they don't know what the rule is, that they don't drive (and you would be surprised as to how many non-drivers we have at SC) and even they don't know.

Kate: Aaaack! I see, I see. Do you think it is too much to assume that people will relate that in their comments or with the other option and comments? I know, one should never assume...LOL. I may just check back on it tomorrow and see if I should re-vamp it. Thank you.

Maybe you could tweak it and ask what the rule is in that person's country and of course you would keep the option for saying that they don't know what a 4-way stop is just in case there isn't such a rule in their country. Who knows, maybe the rule differs depending on what part of the world you live in. I understand teatree's dilemma as well. She's never driven a car once in her life and I don't even think she's ever read a driver's manual from the DMV so she probably has no idea what the laws are concerning 4-way stops. I of course know what the manual says, but I used to drive and had to know this to pass my driving test.

Ok, well maybe this isn't such a great survey...I see what you are saying. But even if you don't drive, you might know the rule? And I see, too, about the other country reference...but that would also be interesting to know. Maybe I will just let it sit for now and see what other suggestions I might get before I make any changes to it...Thank you.

I can understand ano's comment. I don't drive and therefore I also don't know what the answer is. I don't know for certain if that's what he meant, but that's my interpretation. I think that the rules may differ from country to country as well. That's a distinct possibility.

I mean I am only looking for one answer and right now I can't see how there could be more than one answer. Could you give me an example please?
