It's not uncommon for forest fires to be caused by lightning in the U.S.

I think most bush-fires are caused by the intense heat - when things get hot enough, they combust. We've had fires like that in the UK too.

Although I agree with kaleb. Many bushfires here in Australia are natural disasters (although not all are). I can always use "other".

kaleb, would bushfires/forest fires be considered NATURAL disaster?? Or would that come under the heading of FIRESTORMS?? I don't know?? I had thought about that one long & hard because I was already corrected on the terms of my original question.

"Which of these NATURAL (WEATHER) DISASTERS would you fear most?"
to the above now. I will include the term FIRESTORM as that is a terminology most used here.& since fires are what you Australians/New Zealanders experience most,I think it fair to include it.One question though, how are your (bush fires) firestorms started?? By lightenting?? If the answer is yes then that WOULD make it a natural disaster. However if someone calls me on it I'll have to delte your suggestion.*frown*

natism, what would you suggest? Better yet if this were your survey question how would you word it?? & I'll put that.*smile*

I guess "Would you" suggest that if one were in that POTENTIAL & on going situation, one might think,I would hate to go through that (again) Like Californians going through ANOTHER earthquake.Or like the Japanese going through ANOTHER tsunami/earthquake.

Hummm, perhaps it should be "Do You"

Could you please include bushfires (brush/forest fires) since these are by far the worst disasters in Australia.

Also, what natsim said.

Just a note, if you care...you have flood in two different forms. And - how about brush fires? They say about half are natural...? Reasonable anyway - just suggesting.

Volcanic eruptions are not actually weather. Neither are earthquakes or avalanches. They are natural disasters but not really weather.
Biggles old
posted 4-May-2002 1:35pm

This should either be reworded as "Which of these...." or you should provide an "Other" option. You may want to add an option for "I don't fear any natural weather disasters"
darkshadowsseeker old
posted 4-May-2002 12:40pm

In additon, you need to categorize your survey and it should be "Volcanic eruption" and you should also have an "Other" option and this should be single pick as well.
darkshadowsseeker old

Tidal wave is two words and you need to categorize this. Are you referring to a tsunami wave (a really HUGE tidal wave)?
