| hunter | posted 24-Feb-1999 2:30am Creating options that add secondary comments makes it less likely that respondents will find the options applicable. |
| Wicksy | posted 24-Feb-1999 4:36am You say in your question breakdown : " do you ever think sod it ". Well, where's that option in the answers. It's not something you forget either. I normally check but when I am rushed , I click " no check " |
| Guthrie | posted 24-Feb-1999 5:38am I use the spell checker unless my comment is particularly short, in which case I scan the comment myself. It continues to surprise me that people seek to correct the spelling and grammar of other comments. In my view one should take what one can from the comments of others. |
| daver | posted 24-Feb-1999 7:17am I don't use the spell cjecker since I never make spelling misteaks. |
| romkey | posted 24-Feb-1999 9:36am No, my spelling is pretty good naturally and I don't bother with the spelling checker. |
| Gamera | posted 24-Feb-1999 10:39am I sometimes miss and accidentally [send] after my second or third [re-check]. I suck at spelling. |
| drdt | posted 24-Feb-1999 12:54pm I sometimes do my own spellchecking (Look up "spellchecking" in the Dictionary), and disable the checker in those instances. |
| dpolicar | posted 24-Feb-1999 1:07pm I don't dislike the spellchecker, but I trust my spelling and it adds an extra couple of keystrokes to every submission, so I don't use it. (I checked "other opinions.") |
| North79 | posted 24-Feb-1999 1:52pm I always do since I managed to misspell words several times. I do, however, ignore the spellcheck when it tries to correct my spelling of certain words (ie. colour) |
| jonathan | posted 24-Feb-1999 4:17pm You missed an option for not using the spellchecker because you don't really need it. I'm pretty accurate at spelling, typing and proofreading so I rarely bother with a spellchecker. |
| steve | posted 24-Feb-1999 5:03pm Of course, sometimes I ignore what the spellchecker says, as I have deliberately used non-standard spelling and/or grammar. But I always ask it for its input. |
| jettles | posted 24-Feb-1999 9:36pm sometimes use it, sometimes not |
| romkey | posted 25-Feb-1999 12:24am jen - I know you secretly harbor a resentment against the spell checker |
| bill | posted 25-Feb-1999 9:13am daver, I'd like that misteak medium rare please. jen: did you have a traumatic experience with a spellchecker as a child? gilly made a suggestion that I do plan to try some day. A more on-the-fly kind of mode where it just submits if you made no mistakes. Or perhaps another mode where it always submits your comment but warns you if it found misspelling (and you'd have to use "edit" to fix them). |
| daver | posted 25-Feb-1999 9:24am **bill: Oddly enough, while I intended "misteaks", "cjecker" was an unintended typo. I found it too ironic to fix it. |
| reality | posted 25-Feb-1999 11:21am my grammar is lousy, but I use the spell checker because I don't like spelling errors and typos. |
| grmbrand | posted 26-Feb-1999 11:09am I have no strong feelings about spellcheckers; I just don't use them on SC. |
| Pooh_Bear | posted 1-Mar-1999 1:15pm I don't use it, but that doesn't meen it should be remooved. Others mite find it very usful. |
| Frostbrand | posted 3-Mar-1999 7:19pm Pooh_Bear: That's the option I selected! |
| Resy | posted 12-Mar-1999 8:27pm I don't usually have spelling errors. I will verify that words are spelled correctly if the checker highlights something. I very seldom say "oh the hell with it" for anything. |
| pandora | posted 3-Apr-1999 2:20pm I usually try to be careful when commenting, so I don't use it, unless the comment is unusually long. Besides it doesn't bother me to be corrected, although I apologize if my mistakes bother anyone else. |
| mandy | posted 7-Apr-1999 12:14am I think we owe it to each other to post readable comments....poorly spelled posts with errors in grammar and punctuation make the person posting seem ignorant to me..... |
| eris | posted 27-May-1999 8:43pm I stopped using it some time ago because it was slowing things down too much. |
| bill | posted 4-Jun-1999 12:56pm FYI, I added a "Check Comment in the same window as the survey?" option to Customize which causes the spell-checker to do its work more on the fly - your comment gets submitted and spell checked at the same time. Then you can fix it by hitting edit if you see errors, or just go next... |
| eloradanan | posted 19-May-2006 1:33pm I don't use it because I can spell just fine. That being said, I don't think it should be removed because there are those who may need it. |
| LindaH | posted 27-Jul-2008 12:58pm I don't like having to look stuff up in the dictionary when spell checker catches it. My new operating system gives me a right-click option on misspelled words, and the correct spelling shows up. Yay! |
