Which of these are genuine places in the United Kingdom?

Inspired by a comment made by Biggles286 on this survey http://surveycentral.org/survey/19161.html

By 'place', I refer only to human settlements such as towns, suburbs, villages and hamlets. Geographical features do not count for the purposes of this survey.

I believe there is a Beer and a Crackpot. There's definitely a Jump - it's a village near to/in Wombwell (South Yorkshire). It's about a minute's drive from my grandma's bungalow and we go through it when we visit. I believe Twatt is real. I know Wetwang is real - it's in Lincolnshire I think. My local BBC news has a great fondness for putting Wetwang on the weather map. Fingringhoe sounds like a real place as well.

I think that they're probably all genuine in fact. I haven't heard of most of them, but they certainly sound like they could be places.

Some are definitely real, and I think perhaps all of them.

I especially like that the place called "Brown Willy" on that list means "hill of swallows" * laughing out loud *

Yeah I read your comment after I submitted mine and seen that you thought they all might be real. I do like all the names, some are quite funny. I like Brown Willy too. * smile *

What a shame! Did you see the Brown Willy place that I was discussing with ROCKMAN. That would have made a good addition to your list - "hill of swallows" indeed!

Brown Willy is a hill near Launceston in Cornwall so it doesn't count for this survey.
I only wanted to list places where people actually reside as I think it's funnier that people have to say they actually live in a place called "Jump" than say there's a lake nearby called "Hairy Arse" or whatever.
Pity really, because if I'd included hills, woods and coves too we could have had Wide Open Dykes, Cock Play, Burnt Bottom, Breasty Haw, The Bastard and many more!

And if you included caves/caverns you could have had The Devil's Arsehole (so named because it farts).

I think they are all genuine. There are some pretty weird names in Britain.

I've never heard of any of them.

I'm say that 'thong' is a place though and maybe 'diss'

I'm surprised Jump has had so few votes - that's one that I *know* is real!

On the subject of strange place names, there is a village in the county of Essex in England called "Ugley". There is a branch of the Women's Institute there, which is, of course, called the "Ugley Women's Institute". As it happens, Ugley is not very far from Nasty (a village already mentioned in the survey), resulting in a classic local newspaper headline: "Nasty man marries Ugley woman".

Also, near Bradford in Yorkshire, England, is a town called "Idle". In this town is a working men's club called... you've guessed it, the "Idle Working Men's Club".

In the county of Lincolnshire, there are two adjacent villages called "Old Bolingbroke" and "Mavis Enderby". A road sign reading "To Old Bolingbroke and Mavis Enderby" was enlivened by the graffiti addition of "...the gift of a son".
