The quiz compares your answers to some basic questions, against the profiles of known serial killers. All questions are yes/no-- you may find yourself hedging on some of them, but, not to worry, it's just for fun.

| daver | posted 12-Aug-2001 3:02pm It's rather lower than I expected (five points) given that I get the first two points for free. |

| Frostbrand | posted 12-Aug-2001 4:40pm I had an 11. Can you belive that? I think it was the fact that I don't have an SO that put me over the top. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 12-Aug-2001 4:52pm 7 - I can't see that this test could have any real sort of corelation though. I lost points because: !) I'm caucasion (Hmm.. who wrote this?) 2) I daydream (I'd worry about those who don't) 3) I'm alone (Beware of monks) 4) I'm conceited (Well, I figured a smile counted for something) 5) I'm still conceited? (Perhaps people with genius IQ's are...) 6) Pyromaniacs! (Junior mad scientists at work) 7) Destructive (You work for someone that has you do 60 hour work days for oatmeal and see if you don't snap and smash your camera against a wall) |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to mandy) posted 12-Aug-2001 5:15pm You do that so well |
| LindaH | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 12-Aug-2001 5:19pm I think the test was based on statistics. Serial killers statistically are white, male, above average IQ, and would have answered in such a way to get a 20. You lost points every time you checked an answer in common with serial killers of the past. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to LindaH) posted 12-Aug-2001 5:43pm Serial Killers of the future will honestly score 20's perhaps. I remember when the first Bat Man movie came out. It was fine when I rewatched it in a mundane state, but I was in heightened sensitivity the first time; Historical cultural footprints have had their own boogie men. The victorian stereotype of sinister has faded. The Joker unfortunately marked the public release of a new form evil more suited to modern society's collective subconscious. It was a mix of socio-psychopathy blended with what otherwise would have been hebuphrenic schizophrenia and just plain sinister malicious evil. I calculated about 8000 cockroach kills last week. Serial Killer occurred to me. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to jen) posted 12-Aug-2001 5:48pm Have you herd? From south-american honey dipped daggers from deepest africa, it's the KILLER PEAS. - RUN! HIVE! They see you when you're sleeping. They know when your awake. Killer peas are coming to town. I think I need to get to bed. Sayanora Toots. |

| Zang | posted 12-Aug-2001 8:47pm I scored "11" which is just barely inside the "borderline". One thing they don't factor into this quiz is "nationality". Although it is true that most serial killers are white males, what is more true is that they are white male Americans. The phenomenon of serial killers is relatively rare outside of the continental US. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Zang) posted 12-Aug-2001 9:04pm Unless you include war criminals |
| callen610 | posted 12-Aug-2001 9:38pm 8 |
| SueBee | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 12-Aug-2001 9:45pm Lots of serial killers in Washington? Maybe it's from living so close to Oregon. LOL BTW, serial killers don't tend to kill people they know, so I'm safe. |
| SueBee | (reply to Zang) posted 12-Aug-2001 9:49pm That's interesting. It seems like Canada and the US are so culturally similar, so why the difference? I wonder if it's just because we have a much larger population. |
| daver | (reply to Zang) posted 12-Aug-2001 10:02pm The Brits have produced a few memorable ones: from the prototypical Jack the Ripper to the ultra-efficient Harold Shipman. I don't think they're a uniquely American phenomenon. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to SueBee) posted 12-Aug-2001 10:03pm |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to kaleb777) posted 12-Aug-2001 10:07pm Technically, war criminals are considered mass murderers, which are NOT the same as serial killers. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to daver) posted 12-Aug-2001 10:10pm Don't forget the Yorkshire Ripper & Russia had the Red Ripper. |

| Zang | (reply to SueBee) posted 13-Aug-2001 2:14am That would explain why there are more overall, but it doesn't explain why there are significantly more per capita. I think it is a cultural thing. Americans are just more prone to use violence to solve their problems. Just look at the history: 19th century US - The Wild West 19th century Canada - Royal Canadian Mounted Police |
| Zang | (reply to daver) posted 13-Aug-2001 2:16am No. Of course they aren't a uniquely American phenomenon. |

| Biggles | posted 13-Aug-2001 10:26am SCORES 6 - 10: Not to worry -- you're not a threat to society. Although a few quirks in your personality may present some challenges in life, those same idiosyncrasies may very well explain the reason your name continues to appear on "A" party lists. I scored 8 |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to SueBee) posted 13-Aug-2001 11:55am It depends on the killer. The Green River Killer targeted women he thought were prostitutes, but some of him victims weren't, they just were in the wrong place at the wrong time. One was a waitress who was walking home from work. Gacy killed young men, the Red Ripper killed adults & children, mostly near a railway station, he would lure them into the nearby woods. Bundy of course, kept killing his ex-girlfriend over & over, but his last victim was a 12 year old girl. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to mandy) posted 13-Aug-2001 11:57am You ain't cool. Most of the killers I read about prefer strangling & knifing. Guns are passe. Besides, you guys in Washington just finished convicting Robert Yates (Spokane). Give the cops a breather! On the other hand, the U.S. is sadly lacking in female serial killers, the last was Aileen Woumos. So, you go girl (but stay away from me)! Maybe Ann Rule will write a book about you. |
| Miaow | posted 13-Aug-2001 1:03pm 12. I expected it would be higher |

| mandy | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 13-Aug-2001 6:27pm Since I've met Anne Rule, do you think she'll call it "The Stranger at the Book Signing"? She's a delightful woman and a good speaker. She autographed Mallory's copy of A Stranger Beside Me and told her to read it cover to cover and be very careful of men who try to lure you away etc....I thought that was nice of her. There is a theory that Ted's first victim was actually a nine year old neighbor girl. He would have been 14 when she disappeared. Isn't his story fascinating? Mark Fuhrman(sp?) has been in the papers a lot here. He has been critiquing the police's role in the Yates case. |
| SueBee | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 13-Aug-2001 11:17pm Yep! |

| SueBee | (reply to Zang) posted 13-Aug-2001 11:21pm Well, I knew we couldn't blame it all on TV because you guys get most, if not all, of the same shows. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Biggles) posted 13-Aug-2001 11:23pm I'm not sure. The books I have refer to him as the Red Ripper. |

| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to mandy) posted 13-Aug-2001 11:27pm Lucky you, meeting Ann Rule. I would love to meet her. I already know about Fuhrman criticizing the Spokane police. He just wrote a book about Robert Yates, the serial killer & he feels that the Spokane police relied more on computers, than old-fashioned police detective footwork. |
