My name isn't in the "Behind the Name" file. But I looked it up in the dictionary & it means an island paradise in the western seas to which King Arthur went at his death. "Avalon"

I didn't like my given name either.I was ridiculed throughout elementary school.I often wished that my mother would have given more thought as to how children can be so mean when growing up."Ding, dong Avon calling"

You should see how many things rhyme with Thor; many are unpleasant.

Children ARE cruel when you look different, or have a different name, aren't they? If my dad had been around (he was overseas) when I was born, I would have been named something else.

It wasn't till after my dad died that my friends gave me another name.I use it till this day.I'm often asked if Cleo is short for Cleopatra I say No & I tell them my real name & they say Avalon, that's a nice name. But,I still hate using it because people would pronounce it wrong. It's like nails on a chalk board.Aaaarrrrrhhhhhhh.

I've been slightly channeling the name Cleopatra as someone new in my life. I didn't realize that was you.

JENNIFER (f) Cornish form of GUINEVERE

GUINEVERE (f) From the Welsh name Gwenhwyfar, which is composed of the elements gwen meaning "fair, white" and hwyfar meaning "smooth". In Arthurian legend she is the beautiful wife of King Arthur. Her betrayal of her husband with Mordred prompted the battle of Camlann, which led to the deaths of both Mordred and Arthur. Later versions of the legends tell of her adulterous affair with Sir Lancelot.

Oooh, I'm fair, white and smooth, had affairs and killed people! Go me! ^_^

Claire came from Clara. Clara came from Latin 'clarus' which means bright. I knew this already.
