| Cleo | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 25-Jun-2001 2:47am Oh dang!! Thanks for the Little Debbie warning. But I think she ment the regular boxed mix Angel Food Cake by Duncan Hines.10 minutes left ... |
| juliw | (reply to Cleo) posted 25-Jun-2001 7:56am It is Monday morning now, and I just called off sick from work with both a respiratory infection and intestinal flu, so I don't think I will eat much today, but will try to drink liquids to get my strength. |
| juliw | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 25-Jun-2001 8:07am Yeah, you are supposed to stop eating when you are no longer hungry, But so many times, I eat without even thinking about it. Like, I walk to the kitchen to get the phone, and grab a cookie or whatever. Even last night, I felt quite proud of myself, because all I ate all day was some chinese food and some jello. Then, I thought oh yeah and that candy bar and those four bottles of pop. I read your comment to mandy. Sometimes, when I am trying to watch what I eat, I will try to think of something gross to make me want to eat less. But, I am going to try not to think of this as a diet-depriving myself of something-but as just a change in habit and lifestyle, so I can have something else I like even better than food-a shape I am happier with and a sense of accomplishment as I lose weight. |
| Cleo | (reply to juliw) posted 25-Jun-2001 11:58am Top of the morning to you VIP H/C!! Oooh you poor baby, Yeah,it's 8:45 Monday morning here in Cali. I woke up to some neighbors stereo with it's base booming in my happy sleep & it wasn't even 7:30 yet!! Stuff like that usually put me in a lousy mood.I haven't had breakfast yet, probably wont now. Wishing you the very best for the 1st day of "Smart eating" Noticed how I avoided using the D word? Bad word..bad word.. |
| juliw | (reply to Cleo) posted 25-Jun-2001 12:13pm Thanks for your kind words. My mom is home, and has been really nice to me. She had to walk up to the corner store for something, and offered to bring me home food from Taco Bell or Blimpie's ( a sub shop). I reminded her that first of all, our Hula Club starts today, and also, those foods would not sit well with me right now, anyway. Then, my aunt called and asked her to ride with her on an errand. While they were out, mom bought me fresh strawberries, an already made angel food cake, radishes, a bag of salad, and some sprinkles for the salad, plus some orange jello with mandarin oranges in it. And she even sliced the radishes and strawberries, so they would be ready whenever I wanted them. She wanted to get some diet roast beef lunch meat, but they were out, so she got some small cans of tuna fish, so I could I could have a sandwich for my lunch tomorrow if I wanted to. Isn't that sweet? It is kind of a mixed blessing that I am sick, though, because I have only eaten a little bit of the jello and ONE strawberry so far today. BTW, I know what you mean by being awakened by stereos. We live two blocks from the university, so most of our neighbors are college students who play music music all hours of the night. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to juliw) posted 25-Jun-2001 4:33pm You shouldn't even have cookies in the house. You're going to hate me. I have jars of candies. I get then as souvenirs of all sorts of occasions, and never end up eating any, even the exotic candies I get for halloween. It half a dozen hours I'm only on my 2nd coffee and 3rd cig. So I'm exhibiting some control. Becoming a vegetarian helps too. |
| juliw | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 25-Jun-2001 5:20pm Well, I didn't go out annd buy more cookies. i am just saying that one of my bad food habits is not paying enough attention to what i eat. Today, I had for breakfast, a small serving of diet orange jello with mandarin oranges in it. Water to drink. i hate drinking water, but I have been sick, so knew I had to drink lots of liquids. Lunch was a small can of tuna in spring water, mixed with light Miracle Whip, and a really small piece of angel food cake with fresh strawberries on it. For supper, I had a small salad. I used some of that mixed salad out of a bag, and put a few sliced radishes and some Salad Supreme and diet Italian dressing on it. I did have one bottle of regular pop today, but I am proud of having only one. I ate a popsicle this afternoon. They are only about 60 calories and are fat free. So, I think I have done pretty well. I don't want to become a vegetarian, but I do want to start eating more fruits and salads. Tomorrow, I plan to take either salad or some tuna and strawberries for my lunch at work. And, congratulations on cutting down on the cigaretts and coffee. I imagine for you, it is pretty similar to me trying not to drink pop. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to juliw) posted 25-Jun-2001 11:51pm Sometimes I drink coke instead of coffee, then I drink about 4 cans a day (and still a couple coffees). I can never get myself to eat fruit unless I slice up half a dozen varieties and put them either in jello's or yogurt shakes, so that's what I do. Have you tried sparkling waters? |
| juliw | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 26-Jun-2001 6:12pm Sparkling waters might be worth a try! I bought this stuff once that I think was called seltzer, but it ended up just being a clear, but cherry flavored pop, but with even more sugar than pop. Definitely not what I needed! I like most kinds of fresh fruit, but also prefer to make fruit salads, smoothies, or jello with mixed fruit. I did pretty well today, eating wise today. Jello with mandarin oranges for breakfast, tossed salad for lunch, and well, something kind of fattening for supper. I had a ham salad sandwich, but I drank it with diet iced tea (no pop today!) and had more of the angel food cake with strawberries. I am feeling much better today, so I am going to think up some meal ideas, and make a list of what I need from the store. I will soon tire of tuna, salad, jello, and strawberries. Oh! Remember the time we were talking about the amaretto cherries, triple sec pears, etc.? My sister bought some kind of chocolate hazelnut spread at this great gourmet shop and offered to dip some of my strawberries in it. I told her I am dieting, but would take a scant dollop of it on ONE strawberry. It was all right, and I am glad it wasn't that good, because I am really in the right frame of my mind to watch what I eat right now. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to juliw) posted 27-Jun-2001 2:48am Trader Joes carries all sorts of sparkling waters. I neet to eat. My main problem is that I fill up sugary coffee because I'm too tired to cook (and don't even carry instant eatables). |
| juliw | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 27-Jun-2001 5:24pm Thanks. I'll look for Trader Joe's around here. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to juliw) posted 27-Jun-2001 6:20pm I thought when I started going there that it was going to be just for special things, but now I find that since the food is so much better, I get most of my stuff there: Organic dairy inc european cheeses & cage free eggs, european confections, mideast sauces, italian juices, int'l coffees. I go to the regular market just for soda, sugar, and refried beans these days. |
| juliw | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 27-Jun-2001 6:26pm I don't even think we have Trader Joe's around here. I thought that was the brand name of the sparkling water! We have this fantastic gourmet market here called West Point Market. They carry everything you can think of, and I will go check out their selection of juices and sparkling waters. |

Little-Debbie cakes at the 99¢ store are not true angelfood cakes. Read your label before you eat.
