What do you collect?

I collect records- the kind you listen to on a record player, antique photos, from 1800s to early 1900s, I collect elephants-figurines and statues, I collect books- too many books. That's about it I guess.

Antique furniture
Silverware
Antique bottles
Jewelry (I like to wear sets of the same stone...)
Pewter frames
Archaeological artifacts
Green coloured Indiana Glass
Anything considered old (prints, radios... things what?)
And anything that has to do with blues (posters, music, photos etc...)

Miniatures, the smaller and more detailed the better, also angels and western Indian artwork.

Old toys, things from the 70's, coins, souvenir spoons.

I collect

gems and minerals (rocks) - quartz, hematite, calcite, danburite, vanadinite, etc...
metaphysical books

cokin filters

goddess statues

Quan Yin (statues, busts, etc)

witch balls (basically they are blown glass balls that can be hung by wire or string from the ceiling)

ink pens (any kind that are unique)

writing paper/stationery (just pretty stuff - especially done in purples, rainbows, dragon flies, butterflies, or Chinese or Japanese pictures/symbols/etc.

What is a cokin filter?

cokin filters are square pieces of colored glass that fits into a holder over the lens of the camera. You can create some really great pictures with them.

This one is of a beach during the day taken with a filter that is half purple and half clear.


This is using a gold filter.


This one uses a filter that makes surfaces that shine have bright stars. This one takes that shine and turned it into a 8 pointed star.


And this one is also the star 8 filter but there was very little light at dusk so it enhanced the shine of the waves.

Men

I collect plates. I might enjoy it if someone thought about me.

You might collect men, but I dont think you want to collect me, I will wear more dresses then you will. lol.

I collect crap. Every year or so I go through and purge. Making room for new crap. I never really collected anything as a kid or as an adult. I would have no place to put it anyway.

Old books (and just books in general).

Movie tickets.

Elephants, little tiny ones...where ever I can find them. I have nearly 50 from all over the country.

Nothing right now. I used to collect spoons. I suppose if I found nice ones, I still would. There are lots of things I'd like to collect but they're too expensive.

Stuffed animals. I have 178 at the moment. I can't buy any more until I build a new shelf in my room.
I also have a large stamp collection (over 3000), but I'm looking to sell it. I'm not really interested in them anymore.

How old? I don't have a strict policy since it's not my serious hobby (due to lack of money and time to commit myself to it), but I really like old things.

I've stopped collecting them actively now, but when I was younger I'd get everything with Piglet on it that I could find.

Oh, decorative plates. I bought one down in St. Thomas for a hundred dollars, it is my favorite plate.

Hey, you shoulda spoke sooner. I just threw out 100's of record albums, many were very expensive collection sets from the "old" days. But, most were classical, pop, old people music.

#1 (tied) are rancho folclorico and fado, 2 different kinds of folk music from Portugal. Ranchos are made up of folkdance groups - there are finally starting to be a few music CDs available and I search the Web for new releases. Fado is mainly slow, emotional ballads. After that I like various kinds of Brazilian styles -- capoeira, caipira (country music), forró (another kind of country music), samba, and diva Gal Costa. I prefer the "rougher" samba sounds like Martinho da Vila, Zeca Pagodinho, Bezerra da Silva, rather than the more mellow bossa nova stuff. From ancient Hawaii, I like what is apparently called "mele" hula and chant -- especially the primitive song-chants; and other Polynesian music. I gotta get some more of this stuff soon. I also like Tex-Mex/conjunto (favorite musician Steve Jordan) plus enjoying listening to other Latin music styles. Various African music -- here I like Mbilia Bel best so far, but there are so many countries/so little money... There's lots of artists and styles I haven't yet heard, or heard enough of, so it's possible I could latch onto some other country's music in the future. I also like some bellydance and other Middle East styles. I've always wanted a MTV-like World Music Channel (when I used to have a TV). Cajun music has been a favorite style since I was a kid; I like traditional Cajun better than the newer styles and Zydeco. What do you like most?

Not sure - I can look - I know that they are smaller than today's version and all black and white with the table of contents as the first page. I'll look tomorrow and let you know what year most of them are. I don't think my partner is looking for money since she was going to give them to a guy that came to work on the house. Since he has not come back (because he didn't show up for work several times at other places and was fired from the contruction company) I'm sure Jean won't mind sending them your way. I'll ask.

No particular theme for these plates? Roses? Lighthouses? or just something that is pretty?

I love African music and Native American - the real Native American and not the Americanized stuff. I also like Celtic, Brazilian, and chants (like the Monks, and Krishna Das). I like David Arkenstone. My ex-husband's brother-in-law has a traditional cajun band. They are called Deja Vu, I think. If interested, I can see if I can get you a cd of that.

I checked out things you collect. I have a little wooden statue of an African fertility goddess. I think it's from Senegal and I think it's Ashanti, but I was never sure. I can send it to you if you want it.

yes, one has a rose, I dont go for a particular theme, I just go for how well it appeals to me, one has a ballirena on it. another one has a farm scene. so on, and so on.

WOW - if it's a traditional Cajun band, I would LOVE a CD. My fav Cajun band is the late Eddie LeJeune. Also Balfa Bros., D. L. Menard, etc. . Ask your ex- hubby's brother-in-law if he has this music video documentary called "J'ai ete au bal" ("I Went to the Dance" -- a favorite song). It is SO good -- interviews and parts of songs from various Cajun and Zydeco musicians. BF-103, Brazos Films, found on the Arhoolie Records Website. I had a bunch of old vinyl Cajun LPs as a kid. Sometimes I'm afraid to buy something new if I haven't listened to it because I've been disappointed before. My computer is too old to listen to music on; I'm going to be saving up for a new one so I can listen online but it's gonna take a while. I've been disappointed before when an ethnic musician incorporates rock and pop into their music, like some Cajun, Brazilian, Hawaiian, and fado I've heard. This is fine for some, but since I go only for the traditional stuff I end up being disappointed.

Kids. Just kidding. I used to collect carousel things, but I stopped when we ran out of room and we needed to spend money on more important things. Now we have a house with a fire place and a mantle. The stones are pastel pinkish and the carousels match well. They look cool up there.

Nothing. I have a thing for the Willow Tree angels, but don't have a collection, yet. (Only have three.) I used to collect Coca-Cola stuff, but it got old. I ended up selling it all.

Okay - just gave my ex a call. He said that he would talk to his brother-in-law and see if he still had copies of the 2 CDs that his band put out. If so, he will get him to autograph them for you and send them to me. As soon as I get them, I'll let you know. It may take a little while. He will also check with his friend who owns a recording studio to see what they have in the way of traditional Cajun. He said he was sure that he had some and would put that in the mail to me within a week. One of the other locals from where I lived in Louisiana was Doug Kershaw. He was a big time Cajun musician. I think he has retired, but his music is still out there.

THANKS so much! I've heard of Doug Kershaw of the old duo of many years ago "Rusty and Doug" -- they had hits with "Louisiana Man," "Diggy Liggy Lo" and some others. I used to have an old LP by them. Then Doug went on his own. Another one I used to like by him was "Cajun Stripper." There was one called "Mama Rita in Hollywood."

Yep! Rusty and Doug Kershaw. They were born and raised in Lake Arthur, Louisiana! I know all of those tunes well. I knew Doug well, too. My ex said he thought that Doug had moved again - but would try to find out if he is in the area and if so, he would see about an autographed CD of his as well - he just has to find him.

I have enough and there are still more at the other house in Becca's old room. The mantle is full. I also have pictures on it. We are buying shelves for Becca's new room, though and she already has her own carousel collection going on. Maybe she'd like them. What do they look like? Take pics and send in email.

Vintage Sci-fi paperbacks. Of particular interest are the works of Ray Bradbury, Theodore Sturgeon, Henry Kuttner, C.L. Moore, Clifford D. Simak and Fritz Leiber.

The cover illustrations are of interest as well. Books with covers by Richard M. Powers or Frank Kelly Freas tend to get snapped up too.

I use to collect business cards. I collect post cards but only from places I've been. I don't get to travel much any more so collecting them as come to a stand still. I don’t really collect anything now except clothes maybe. Two closets in my bed room, and I’m running out of room. I may have a problem.

Barbie Dolls I have and I just love my dolls , and I have many porcelain dolls as well and I collect these plates that are painted, and I have many of those old old records from the 50's and 40's I believe it is, and stamps and coins those wheat pennies I have a collection, and State Quarters all 50 States I am filling up this book with State Quarters and much more I collect
