When you first created your account at Survey Central, did you do it with another user name than the one you have now?

Many people have changed their names for their own personal reasons and it's caused confusion for some people - namely ME! Help me get it straight and post your previous name(s). You may post the "Why? For..." if you want.

Much appreciated... * wink *

I never understood why you changed it to some obscure name with a number... (I do like Wolf but the numbers make it obscure - why the numbers?)
Numbers usually represent someone's lack of imagination to create a nick and has to add them to their choice so as not to be like all the others with the same nick! Why the 359? It's not like there are 358 other wolves here at SC! I don't get it?!?

...OK! OK! I guess you're wondering about the "007" in my nick. It's because my son created my original e-mail account at hotmail and he thought (in his 14 year old wisdom) that 007 would be a great idea. It kinda stuck... * wry smile * I tried to re-use it at hotmail when I started paying for my subscrition but it was already taken - as was Irene008, Irene009, Irene010 and etc... * raspberry * I eventually found something and it didn't need numbers either!!

I thought it might be because you were a James Bond fan. In the case of my name, I decided to changed it when I moved out of my former place (and you probably remember my near constant doging about my former roomie) and moved to a place where I was much happier. Not necessarily happy, but happier nonetheless. The name is from the old, 1960's version of Outer Limits and is taken from my all time favorite episode, "Wolf359". I saw the episode again about a week before I changed my user name. Each day the SciFi channel shows a bunch of episodes from a SciFi series. Sometimes it's Star Trek, sometime it's Quantum Leap, sometimes it's the Outer Limits (they have done days with the old series and days with the new version). So now you know where I got my new user name from and why I changed it. Any other questions? * winking raspberry *

Hey! I made a real simple but delectable recipe the other day and I thought you might like it! It's meant for venison but filet mignon works just as well;

Sear the meat and keep it warm while you deglaze the pan with port wine, add some Stilton cheese (or a good, melting blue cheese) stir until it melted and add some cream but don't let it boil. Serve on top of the meat and... OMG It's to die for!!

The simplest of recipes are always the best! * smile *

Yup, you say it properly.
It's the name of an ancient Akkadian (Mesopotamian) priestess. She was the daughter of the king Sargon. She was high priestess to the moon god, Nanna in Sumerian, Sin in Akkadian. She's also the first known poet. I just like her and her name, and I like to use things that are related to my field of study. I also didn't want to use my real name. When I started using SC, no one else had the name, but now when I create accounts in various places, the name alone is often taken, so I have to add numbers to the end of it. I guess she's pretty popular!

> Who made you want to leave and why???

In early 98, SC was a much different place to what it is now. It was in its infancy. No qualification, no replies, not even smilies! It also hadn't spread much, and it felt like the majority of users were made up of a band of real life friends and associates. To me, it felt elitist, cliquish, insular and alien. I tried to fit in, but I didn't feel as if I was made particularly welcome and one specific user (who shall remain nameless) made it intolerable. So I left.
Circumstances meant that I couldn't return even I'd wanted to, but a job change and a little bit of curiosity meant that in early 2000 I decided to give it another go. This time round, there were users like nihon, ILJ, Enheduanna, Zang, Maarten(then vos) and msgman. People whose comments I enjoyed reading. It seemed like a much different place. A fun place. I hope I've added to that.

You're in Hong Kong most of the time right? I know I've discussed this with you before - I'm sure of it but time flies and unless I get some memory reinforcement; memories act like cigarette smoke and kind of dissipate!

It's about this scientist who recreates a world in miniature in his lab from another planet. He is using specimens collected from that world which is called Wolf359. Unfortunately a ghostly, bat-like entity populates this world and is able to leave the confines of the area where the miniature planet-scape lies (think very large, wall size aquarium setting). It's not a benevolent creature and starts going after the scientist's lab assistant, etc. The special effects are fairly good considering what a cheapo budget Outer Limits had and I can't really explain why, but this has always been my favorite episode. I guess I really like the alien entity...it's spooky looking and it's obvious that it's up to no good. As to James Bond...all I can say it HEATHERN! How could anyone consider or even think of Roger Moore and James Bond in the same sentence. Sean Connery was James Bond and Pierce Brosnan, one of his almost worthy successors is good, but he ain't no Sean Connery! Of course we won't talk about George Lazenby or Timothy Dalton.

Wadya mean in September 2004??? I remember when you were walking with just a cane and were soon to be rid of it. Is this why we didn't see you for a while? I often thought of you and wondered how you were but I became confused with all the "julies" and the name changes at SC.

The Outer Limits show sounds real good - I hope I can catch a re-run! (I like old sci-fi!)

And as for Timothy Dalton... Pfffft! I can't believe they chose him over Brosnan!! And YES! Now that I'm educated - Connery really is Bond! I just never cared for that kind of movie - in fact, I watched the latest ones only because of Brosnan. Sean, to me, is an excellent actor and he has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen on a man - still! *drool*

They didn't choose him over Brosnan. First it was Sean Connery, then George Lazenby-but he was in only one Bond movie, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", then came Roger Moore, than Timothy Dalton-I think he only made a couple of Bond movies and then Pierce Brosnan. Dalton was bearable, but Roger Moore made a big joke out of the role of James Bond and didn't even fit the image of Bond from Ian Fleming's books. He is far too posh and Etonian with his blond hair and blue eyes. As to Outer Limits, your best bet is to keep an eye out for it on the Sci-Fi channel if you get that one. That's the only place I've seen it, but it may be different in Canada. Frankly I don't care all that much for the newer version of Outer Limits. They has only been one episode of the new version so far that captivated me and that was "The Sand Kings" starring Beau Bridges.

Yes, we're still in Hong Kong although we tend to spend the summer and Christmas in the US. I don't think have a 15-month-old at 36 is odd---I'm actually one of the younger parents in Hong Kong. People tend to get married and have children here later in life. Of course, my husband has a 15-month-old and he's 46! His oldest "baby" is 19 and a freshman at university!

I know, I actually miss wiccawillow now I've changed!
Wicca is a religion that I follow - look http://www.religioustolerance.org/witchcra.htm This is a really good site as it focuses on the individuality of every wiccan and how differently it can be interpreted by everyone. The introductory essay is great.

Though wicca is a huge part of my life it isn't the only aspect of me and I dont want to be defined by it, which was also another factor behind my name change.

Hmmm... Maybe you should be Wolf007! * raspberry * I do remember when Dalton did his Bond movie and Brosnan had been considered for the role at the same time - I heard it on the news. Even the reporter thought that Brosnan would have been a better pick.

I don't have the Sci-Fi channel, we have very basic cable service just so we could have our fast internet connection... * frown *

I don't think it's odd either as most people now have their children later now... I just couldn't handle it! * wink *

The essay just confused me... There doesn't seem to be any structure to it, as if anything goes so that must make me a wiccan! * smile *

That's right, Irene. I was walking with a cane, that I was soon to be rid of. I still feel more comfortable using the cane when walking outside (uneven sidewalks, etc.) and around the mall or other very crowded places. My balance is very poor at times. Around the house and at work, I don't use my cane. I had been doing great, but was still on medication. I had frequent blood and stress tests, and saw my cardiologist twice a year. By the way, my cardiologist is absolutely amazing! He even won an award at the hospital for being their best and most caring physician. I would highly recommend him to anyone. (Although of course, I do not wish for anyone to have heart problems!) I was at work on September 13, 2004. The last thing I remember was typing away at my computer at work. I woke up (or came to, whatever) in the emergency room! I was quite surprised and scared, to say the least! Someone (a nurse? My memory of that week is still very fuzzy.) came in, and she said I had had another stroke at work, which caused me to have some kind of seizure. As far as I know, I had NEVER had a seizure before. This stroke was different than the others. It was a hemhorragic stroke. The first two strokes were caused by blood clots in my brain. My cardiologist had me on some pretty strong blood thinners to prevent blood clots. For some reason, the blood thinners had worked a little TOO well, and my brain was actually hemhorraging blood! That caused the stroke and the seizure. He took me off the blood thinners immediately, and instead, I take an aspirin every day, in addition to my other prescriptions. Aspirin is a blood thinner, but not as strong, and seems to have fewer side effects than the other blood thinner I had been on (Coumadin). I also take seizure medicine. Someone said I had another seizure while I was in the hospital. I was out of the hospital within four days, and back to work a few weeks later. I feel fine. At first , my emotions were really messed up. I would cry very easily. I attributed that to the fact that, in addition to the stroke, we were moving out of our house (where I had lived all my life). But the doctor said that while those in themselves were bound to cause stress, I had actually had a blood injury during my seizure. He did not expect me to live, and thought that at best, I would have to have brain surgery. When I saw my cardiologist right before I went back to work, he said he was absolutely amazed at how well I was doing. I feel very lucky and very blessed. I feel great, and haven't noticed any damage. Thanks for asking. (And sorry for my long-winded answer!)
