What are your top five favorite movies?

I manage a video store and always ask this question to every person I interview. Don't over-analyze or think about it, just the first five movies you think of as your favorites.

The ones that come to mind, ones that I can watch over and over and over and over and over again...

Office Space
Steel Magnolias
When Harry Met Sally
What About Bob?
Finding Nemo * wink *
Dirty Dancing
Labyrinth
The Dark Crystal
Lord of The Rings (Trilogy)

and...I'm thinking of this one movie where 2 couples go to Vegas...Billy Bob Thornton is in it?? Can't remember what it's called but it's freakin' hilarous

Ok so that was more than 5, and i have many more, those were just the first ones that came to mind.

Here's five, no particular order (except the first is and always will be by first), subject to change:
1) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
2) Dawn of the Dead (the original though I enjoyed the sequel)
3) 8 1/2
4) Fox and His Friends
5) Polyester
These are my favorite in the sense that I can watch them many times and never fail to enjoy or get something new out of them.

I never saw The Crow (it's on my list!) and I didn't much care for Apocalypse Now. I'll add Kissed and Boxing Helena to my list since it's on your Top Five.

Fox and His Friends - Fassbinder directed and also performed the lead as the ironically named Fox, a carnival worker who wins the lottery and is used up by his new bourgeois friends.
Polyester - I think of this as John Water's Job story; Divine stars as an extremely put-upon suburban housewife. A twisted homage to Douglas Sirk (long before Todd Haynes' "Far From Heaven").

So many to choose from. I decided to choose one from each genre. These choices are subject to change at any time.

Action: Hidalgo, anything Viggo
Comedy: Harold & Maude, The Royal Tanenbaums
Drama: Rules of Attraction, A Walk on the Moon
Family: Labyrinth, Willy Wonka
Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy: Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, Legend, I couldn't decide.

I know it's more than 5 but I have alot of movies.
I watch Rosemary's baby everytime it comes on TV. I don't know why but I have to watch it everytime.

It's true what you say about the lack of advertisement for that film - it was good enough to just go along with the word of mouth! I saw the movie right after, what I thought was a really good movie about drugs; "Traffic" I liked the way the scenes in NY were filmed with a blue filter and the scenes in Mexico filmed with an orange filter. What I didn't like was the choice of "sweet little girl corrupted by the drug trade" to illustrate the movie's point. It wasn't credible. But Requiem for a Dream was shockingly real - the young woman convincing herself the she was not addicted and yet went pretty low just to get her fix - that seemed much more real! I liked the way they filmed the effects of getting high too - the close up of the dilating eye, pill popping and etc.. It was a really good movie and had a stronger impact on the cause and dangers of drug addiction.
