| confetti | posted 29-Apr-2002 5:11pm The Strokes' "Is This It". Best songs: title track (puts you in a dazedly good mood) and "Alone, Together" (they're channelling every kind of melodic rock-pop they've ever heard on that song. It's really amazing. The main drift of it is "alone we stand/together we fall apart" but you can barely hear the rest of the lyrics. Not only do the vocals sound like you're listening to them while in a fast-moving elevator, the kids are so rhythmn-obsessed you can't help but get caught up in their contagious guitar-drums-bass and not hear anything else). In the days (a year or so ago) when Julian Casablancas was "two months behind on my rent" he was quoted as saying that they all wanted to do one of those albums where you never want to skip a track. They've really succeeded, and good for them. Bob Dylan's "Blood On The Tracks". He gave the world the sweet sorrow and memories of joy that is life in forty-five minutes. He gave everyone freedom to love and be heartbroken on "Simple Twist Of Fate" in five minutes. What a man. What an album. |

I usually listen to cd's I've burned that have a variety of different artists on them. But, the (bought) cd's I listen to most often are Pink Floyd, 2 Pac, Metallica, Aerosmith, City High, Eminem, and Cher. *I told you have a taste for ALL types of music* |

| Zang | (reply to Irene007) posted 2-May-2002 5:30pm Well, I just meant that I had read about them, but now I'm waiting for "That Girl" to download from Audiogalaxy (It finished while I was typing this so I'm listening to it now). From the description I expected something resembling Everything But The Girl, although they weren't specifically mentioned. It does have some similarities, but a little more up to date...I detect some Hip Hop influence in the beats, structure, form...a little too pop oriented for my tastes I'm afraid...Her voice reminds me of Natalie Imbruglia, who I kind of like...as far as that pop stuff goes... |
