Chiropractics helped me. The others on the list I wouldn't try. | Which of the following healing techniques have you used, and did it, in your opinion, positively affect your health?
Brave New World is the similar/opposite type of tale. Interestingly, both 1984 and Brave New World are really about masses of people who no longer are individualists, and don't think for themselves. Except the key figures in each book.... I'd say the increase (my perception) in laws and regulations, for our 'good' - and aren't laws always passed for that reason anyway - is an indication we're already in that frame of mass-mind. | 1984
Someone I know has been on a very expensive prescription appetite-suppressant/diet pill for a few months now. I believe the weight loss average is about 2 pounds a month, or perhaps every 2 weeks. Anyway, these pills don't necessarily work for any length of time and most of the better side-effects like waking earlier and feeling more energetic have worn off. I don't think all doctors who prescribe these pills know enough about weight loss to treat a patient who wants to lose weight. Heavily :) advertised 'miracle' pills aren't going to work, and could be dangerous. | Do you think that those Miracle Diet Pills really work?
Yes. Most of them are narcissists. | Do you think most other people are selfish?
3 because my mom's in a nursing home, and wouldn't be able to attend. My sister would have some excuse, because she'd have to travel. There would probably be more, though, because some of the distant relatives would want the free lunch. | If you died right this instant, how many people do you think would go to your funeral?
Money always seems to be the solution to every problem. In this case :) it would be far more pleasant if there were ways to prevent the freeloader behavior. Maybe more emphasis on the tour, and less emphasis on the wine drinking. Only the diehards would attend/return. I've never been on such a tour, so this may not be feasible. What's next? Fees for trying perfume testers at the department store? | Some wineries have started charging for tours and tastings. Should this trend continue?
By sheer coincidence, my sister and I were just discussing this last week. We both think people are far too self-absorbed. Good manners and consideration for others are severely lacking in our society. | Do you think civility or lack thereof is a problem?
Nationalism and patriotism can be far too important to a country. These things can get out of control. Canadian laws protect Canadians from US culture, by restricting TV programming from the US, including outlawing US satellite systems, and restricting how many US TV shows we can watch, by taxing magazines from the US heavily, and forcing radio stations to play 30% (rumor has it soon to be 40%) Canadian music - talent doesn't count. Do you think it's right we're going to have to hear Anne Murray that often? Mostly I'm ashamed of this country because of the deteriorating standards of living, and because of whiny Quebec. I used to think this country could be improved, and maybe I'm just old and disillusioned, but I don't believe it anymore. | Are you proud to be a citizen of (your country goes here)?
Right and wrong. It seems not many people were taught the difference by their parents. | Whether or not an action is evil is determined by:
Good for California. That's keeping the US one united country. End the bilingual fad before it gets out of hand the way Quebec vs Canada did. A country can't survive when one small minority gets the pandering Quebec/French has received over the years. The animosity in Canada (English speaking, from my personal observations) is widespread. How'd you like to have to publish your web page in the 2 official languages, or get your web site removed? Or be refused all civil service jobs because you don't speak 2 languages? | California just passed a controversial referendum to end bi-lingual education and replace it with a one year immersion course in english. How would you have voted?
