Other: Definitely problems here in the US, but there are everywhere and from the travelling I've done, I don't see leaving as a solution. Unless you've got enough money that your nation of residency is pretty much irrelevant, your best bet is to learn the game and play it faster and better than the beauracrats. | Are you proud to be a citizen of (your country goes here)?
Beware the sudden, unpredictable, completely inexplicable earwax avalanche........ | How often do you clean your ears?
I missed my five year and didn't regret it much; from what I understand it was the same jocks and butt-holes proving that now they could drink alcohol legally! How exciting! I've always said that I'd go to my ten year (coming this year) because I figure by now most of the divorces will have occured and the women will have a better idea of what a fantastic catch I really am. "Hm, he doesn't drink beer all day, has a decent job, and probably won't beat me. Hands off ladies, he's mine!" :) | Did you attend your last high school reunion?
My survey. I tried to do a canonical list at the start, and gave up because there are so many "extreme" activities out there and most of them have a normal level as well. You can rollerblade on Memorial Drive on the weekends or you can do railing stunts on the bridge over Storrow Drive. You can ski Killington or you can do 70 degree chutes off a glacier. So the definition I was looking for is "Sports in which your chances of death are significantly higher than average." Personally, I surf, which since I live in New England doesn't really qualify as extreme, except that I mostly do it in winter or in hurricane season since that's the only time we get waves. I've never been badly hurt, although on one occasion I badly overstepped my limits and spent a long hour wondering if I was going to drown as a result. I don't do it so much for the rush, but rather to prove to myself I can do it. I've always been a non-athletic kid with too much imagination and sitting on top of the ocean on a chunk of fiberglass scares me quite a bit. It wasn't until recently I realized that while I was never an "athlete" as a kid due to bad coordination, I was always in shape and stronger than most of the kids I knew. I just couldn't play their games. Swimming, running track, I always did well but they didn't have the social acceptance or recognition that overcame the stigma of being picked last for everything else. So now I stick to individual sports and do them for personal bests, and it feels pretty good. | Extreme Sports:
I understand the urge to put the bastards up against the wall and I can't really say I feel sorry for the tobacco industry, but on the other hand, it's really another example of there being no personal responsibility for your own actions. Anyone who started smoking after 1970 or so was buried under warnings, told repeatedly by doctors, and had a little flag on each pack that said, if in slightly obscured language, "Hey, use this, you're going to die." People did anyway. The punitary lawsuits for obscuring the contents and such, hell yeah, hit them as hard as you can. But handing a bunch of people compensation for their own refusal to accept the truth just doesn't sit right with me. | Should tobacco companies be required to pay for medical costs resulting from the use of their product?
Although this works best as a "pick two" survey. I chose quality, but there's a limit as to how much I'm willing to spend on takeout so cost factors in. Speed is pretty irrelevant. | When ordering food for delivery what is more important?
I played in one of The Beautiful and The Damned productions as an NPC and it was fun, if frustrating. The words "Cat herding" came to mind at the time. 150 people running around lost in their own little fantasies without much heed to the plot as specified. Not really something I'd rush to do again, although I could see it being *really* fun with group of serious gamers, ala Larry Nivens _Dream Park_. | Ever played in a LARP (Live Action Roleplaying Game)?
Other would probably be my first choice, but on foods that absolutely require lubrication (post thanksgiving turkey sandwiches, tuna salad, etc.) Miracle Whip is my first choice. The only application I have for mayo is things like coleslaw and potato salad where it's less of a flavor and more of a binder. | Which do you prefer?
I'm still a toy geek. I particularly liked, and like, toys that had a lot of play value without attached storyline; things like Transformers, the original GIJoe, Legos. Nowadays, I don't get to watch Saturday morning cartoons as often so the stories often pass me by so the toys are without story by default. Toys like Playmobil are really wonderful open-ended imagination tools. | What was your favourite toy/plaything when you were younger? what about now?
Rough one. Probably the sixties. Good jazz, blues, the rock and roll explosion. I'd probably prefer my "decade" to start around 1965 and run to '75 rather than 1960-1970 though.... | If, for the rest of your life, you could only listen to music from one decade, which decade would you choose?
