32Concerts should [not] be subject to the same hearing-protecteion laws as workplaces are now? Or should they be mandated to be the same by definition? (i.e. By reference or by value?)
Are sound levels at rock concerts too high?
33Some of those countries don't have elected officials. How many of the following countries heads of state can you name?
34It would have been "more than a year", but I recently went on a long road trip with someone who seems to prefer inorganic food.Quick, when was the last time you ate McDonald's food?
35It depends on my mood, who I'm with, and how we're going to pass the time. What's the longest amount of time you would wait for a seat at a restaurant?
36We normally punish people for doing harm, not for doing less harm than they do good. I think that's a good thing. If we free him and he kills some more people who weren't about to die of AIDS, we've traded their lives for some others. Hardly unheard of, but I wouldn't sleep well having done it.

I don't think we could force the cure out of him by beating him up, but maybe by going through his notes and research. But that's weaseling out of the dilemma, so we should probably assume he did it all in his head.
Dilemma : A man currently serving life in jail for the murder of 20 people finds a cure for AIDs. However, he says he will only reveal the cure if he is released from jail and not monitored. What do you do ?
37Judging by the survey results so far, all I have to do is come up with the cure for AIDS and I can go kill a few people without being punished. It's an interesting incentive program for researchers.Dilemma : A man currently serving life in jail for the murder of 20 people finds a cure for AIDs. 38I think society would suffer if we only let children be raised by normal parents.

Perhaps a more interesting question is whether homosexuality is a strike against a prospective adoptive parent, rather than whether it should rule them out entirely.
Do you think gay couples/unmarried heterosexuals should be allowed to adopt children ?
39North79: limbs, good health, and vision are actually useful, regardless of what everyone else has. I'd want to fix my eyesight so that I could see, not so that I'd be like everyone else.

You also seem to be conflating "normal" (standard, common) with "natural" (not an artifact of civilization).

I think part of the confusion in this discussion comes from some people (including me) using "normal" to describe only the most common sort of people, even though it's normal (common, expected) for a certain portion of the population to fall outside that range. It's neither normal nor natural to have only normal people.

Now I've seen the word "normal" too much and it's ceased to be a word. I picture a sea mammal with a giant tusk bursting through the arctic ice.

40I type much faster when expressing my own thoughts than when copying text. I think I'd have to make my own speed checker that let me type whatever I wanted to and assumed it was all correct. How Fast Can You Type?
