I have no problem with this becoming a Federal law perhaps, but I'm generally opposed to amending the Constitution for any reason other than countering something that is specifically stated in the document. To my knowledge, that wouldn't apply in this case.Do you think the Freedom of Religion Amendment should pass?
Like it or not, this is an English-speaking country and that's not likely to change any time soon. I think it does a real disservice to a young person to allow them to go through school speaking a different language than the vast majority of the population. It may make them feel proud about their heritage, but then what? Can they get a job? Not a good one. Can they go to college? Probably not in the US. The purpose of educating a child is to prepare him or her for becoming a self-supporting adult. Failure to require the child to become fluent in English clearly works counter to that goal. But to be realistic about it, a child who immigrated to this country with minimal or no knowledge of English would have to be allowed at least one year of education in his or her own language just to keep from falling behind. I think the "give a man a fish..." concept applies pretty well to this question.California just passed a controversial referendum to end bi-lingual education and replace it with a one year immersion course in english. How would you have voted?
I actually got as far as recording four albums worth of material and writing a fifth before I realized I didn't want to spend the rest of my life sleeping in hotel rooms and waiting for sound check, much less suckling at the corporate nozzle in order to sell my creativity as "product". I was very recently offered an opportunity to take another stab at it, though, so who knows? People always seemed to like my music pretty well, so maybe there are second chances in life after all.How musical are you?
A pizza MUST have spinach and feta on it. Everything else is window dressing.Pizza!
***joe: Yes, I realize this survey is ancient, but I'm commenting anyway. How does one get 132 on the ASVAB? It's scored by percentile, 99% being the highest possible score (I know, I got one). What were your SAT scores?
