I don't know if it was their staying together for that long or their splitting up that caused my screwed up views about marriage, but when I think of how horrible it is for my parents to be in the same room now (20 years later) I am glad that they split up. | 47 | Eeah -- you are absolutely correct to point out that medications are available that have dramatically increased the life expectancy of people with HIV/AIDS. I recently worked in an AIDS drugs research center, and I learned is that life for people on drug cocktails SUCKS. Sure, they will live longer, but they will never feel good, never have energy, will still be in and out of the hospital, never have an appetite, etc. Many AIDS patients die now because they give up on the drug cocktails. So while life expectancy has increased, HIV infection still sucks. Also, while I know that most people I know are educated and informed about the prevention of HIV, the infection is spreading unchecked in much of Africa.
