611dpolicar: you don't live in Cambridge and, in fact, Somerville picks up and recycles more than Cambridge, last time I checked... * wink * How good are you at conserving natural resources?
612I don't have a dog, * frown * but I'm planning on having one or more as soon as possible... * smile * Do you have a dog in your home?
613No, thank God... * smile * (I'm very allergic.)
My housemate used to have one * frown * but his dad died so the cat is spending some time with his mom.
Do you have a cat in your home?
614Somerville, Massachusetts (Boston Area). Oh, USA. * smile * How international is survey central, where do you hail from?
615Don't intend to have kids. Among the strange names I've heard over time were (off the top of my head) "Mary Christmas", "Justin Case" and "Nosmo King"... * smile * What are you going to (or already have) name your first child?
616What's wrong with "share it with your dinner companions"? * smile *
We love to go out and other a bunch or stuff that's shared among everybody -- this idea that every one has to have their own dishes is not very fun, imnsho.

617Ahem... instead of "go out and other a bunch or" I meant to type "go out and order a bunch of", sorry about that.

About the "un/civilized" part: until the late 1970's or so, most countries would consider the American Standard of bringing your dish already on a plate uncivilized. The "correct" form used to be you prepare everything with a good presentation in a serving platter with enough food for everyone that ordered that dish. Everyone has their own plate (one per course). A *waitron* will serve you. The idea is you are gonna be served small portions at a time several times -- you eat enough and people can't actually tell how much you ate unless they are paying attention to your plate, which is considered rude. Pay attention to your plate. * smile * And no, I don't appreciate the old standby, give me a normal American restaurant any time... * wink * It's just that I never had any problems asking for extra plates to share the food here.

I also find it annoying that serving platters became common instead of plates and people assume plates are just for salads. I really dislike it because you have to go out of your way to find a dishwasher that will take 12 platters at a time, most will take say, 6 which is decent for 6 courses but we usually have more than 6 friends for dinner.
