i consider Dune (TB) to be one of the two best science fiction novels ever (with zelazny's Lord of Light). when i first saw the movie at the theatres, shortly after reading the book, i hated it. i recently saw it again, and this time i enjoyed the movie. however, i enjoyed it in the same way i enjoy many really bad/cheesy sci fi movies, because that is what it is, a cheesy sci-fi movie that comes nowhere near the book. some of the movie portrayed particular scenes from the book quite well, particularly visually (and the "voice" was well done too). the "voice weapons" were a really, really stupid idea. why these made the fremen so powerful i can't imagine. give me a blaster with a regular old trigger any day. i thought the movie portrayed the harkonens just fine. what problem did you have with them? | Dune ...
both suck, however dumping is worse. when i was dumped, it hurt, and then i was able to go about healing the pain. When i dumped someone, i hurt them, which hurt me. unfortunately, having just dumped the person, i am in no position to make them feel better, so i just have to live with the pain of hurting someone i care for. | Which is worse, being dumped or having to dump someone?
i'd guess at least in the 41-80 range. possibly the 81-160. | If you died right this instant, how many people do you think would go to your funeral?
i actually think i happened upon this movie on tv the other night. it looked horrifyingly bad, and i changed the channel after about 2 minutes | Did you like the movie Joe Versus the Volcano?
there was a limit to the amount of prime time tv we could watch. during the morning/afternoon we could watch whatever we wanted, but we were generally outside playing anyway. There were a few specific shows that were forbidden - Laverne and Shirley being the only one i can think of off hand. **bill- yeah, i don't have any complaints with that decision. i've always maintained that i had excellent parents :) | How much TV did your parents let you watch as a kid?
i've never heard of them. do they sing? | Teletubbies?
if a winery wants to charge for a tour, that's their business. if i have a choice between a free tour, and one that costs, however, i'll end up at the winery with free tours and i'll end up buying their wine. | Some wineries have started charging for tours and tastings. Should this trend continue?
the absolute first ones i bought were two 8-tracks by Kiss - "Alive I" and "Destroyer". The first LP i bought was "Paradise Theater" by Styx. The first cassette (purchased shortly after i got a car) was Led Zepplin II. And the first CD I bought (after bill brought his cd player to school) was Sgt. Pepper's. | What were the first albums/singles you ever bought with your own money? And what media were they on?
sorry, i honestly don't like any of those names. If i must pick, the coolest (by virtue of being the least uncool) would be Milora | What's the coolest name for a girl?
i haven't ever completely burned a book, but i scorched one once. Leviathan, by Hobbes, was the most infuriating book of social philosophy that i ever had to read. late one evening, in a fit of revulsion, i lit the corner of the book on fire. i soon realized that burning a book was equally as revolting, and stamped it out. the scorched book still sits in the library... | Have you ever burned a book?
