21Utopian and dystopian novels are some of my favorites, when done well. Other books in the same (or at least similar) theme that jump to mind are Brave New World by Aldus Huxley and We by Yevgeny Zamiatin. Other good dystopias include Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, several books by John Brunner (Stand on Zanzibar and Jagged Orbit are two good examples), and to an extent, perhaps Ayn Rand's Anthem

***bill - actually, 1984 was more of a comment on the state of england's working class - i.e., that they were slipping towards a sheep-like state where they were no longer capable of revolting. Orwell's Animal Farm is a more direct attack on, not communism as an idea, but the Stalanist implementation of communism ("All animals are equal but some are more equal than others").

***Actually, lion, Zamiatin's book predates Orwell's by about 25 years.

22still haven't seen the movie.
my mom's uncle (my great-uncle?) was in WWII. he was a radioman on a bomber, so he never saw combat from the perspective that the movie portrays.

23Although i haven't found a need to use the anonymous feature, i think its good that its there, and i don't think it should be changed. For some reason, although i think anonymous comments are great, i have misgivings about anonymous surveys. I couldn't say why, and it doesn't make much sense, but there you have it.So, how do you really feel about anonymous commenting and survey creating?
24i've never flown first class. it looks pretty nice, but definitely not worth the $$ to me.How do you feel about having a first class in travel?
25***bill - sounds good to me!When was the last time you went to an Art Museum?
26it depends on the job. in the situation you describe, it sounds like pretty unproffesional behaviour. in others, it wouldn't be such a big deal.Do you consider it ethical, or fair to your coworkers, to consistently arrive 15 or 20 minutes late of a morning or after lunch?
27i might consider doing it as some sort of protest, or, in a capricious moment, i might do it just to screw with government, but the only way i would actually do it is if there were no other willing, living candidate that i could bring myself to choose.Dead Senators
28are you just suggesting replacing all taxes with property tax? or are you actually suggesting that "the world government, tm" would actually own my land and would be free to do whatever they want, whenever they want, becasue the land is theirs, not mine?Do you think annual rents for land could replace all forms of taxation?
29why is this an essay question?

i rarely watch MTV. i read recently (in billboard, maybe?) that there are days where mtv averages less than 3 videos per hour, and that there are hardly any days when it averages above 4. um, hello?

What did you all think of the MTV awards lastnight?
30pretty even split between "net" and "internet".

***hunter - now that you mention it, i also use the term "online" fairly regularly

Which of these do you prefer to use to refer to the Internet?
