I do receive all forms of government welfare. I am on Cash Assistance, food stamps, child care assistance, medical assistance, and also have a full Pell Grant to attend a Community College. However, I do not consider myself an ignorant, stupid, lazy, good-for-nothing sons of dog. I receive aid because I am now a single parent & cannot afford to pay all of my bills. Hardships happen to good people & I hope you never have to go through what I am going through now. BTW: I have never been in trouble with the law (I haven’t even gotten a parking ticket). I graduated from high school. I am over 21. I have more than minimal skills you listed... My only faults are that I left a volatile marriage & took my daughter with me. Moreover, I believe that to be fully independent and a productive member of society (along with being able to provide everything my daughter needs), I need an education that consists of more than a high school diploma. I do not believe in hand-out, nor do I whine or have multiple children. I am required through the JOBS program from DES to do 40 hrs of “productive work” (IE: in-class, work, or volunteering) this as you see does not consist of the many hours of studying one needs to have to get good grades. If you add study time into that, I “work” 60 hrs a week & raise my daughter by my self. I work at the school I am attending & volunteer at DES when school is out, I’m not getting something for nothing here, so for you to say I am not worthy of getting an education, so that the government does not have to “pay” for me or my daughter for the rest of our lives is silly. Obviously you do not have children, nor do you have the burden of paying for your expenses by yourself. To say that $350-$1,100/month for rent alone is “relatively low” & that you can get by with $10 an hour pay when you have a family to provide for is ridiculous. If you were referring to single people, then you were not reading the question correctly. I pay $250/month & 1/3 of the utilities, & with out assistance would not be able to pay my car insurance, eat, afford day care, or bring my daughter to the Dr when she is sick, or go to school. | Should economically challenged people be given a scholarship to help their children finish High School?
I do not have cable, the car I drive is my mothers (I pay for my insurance & oil changes) the town I live in is 30 miles from my work so walking is out of the question & buses do not run out here. I have a cell phone for emergencies only (being a single parent this is the only way the daycare/Drs can get a hold of me if there is something wrong with my child) the phone it self was free & I only pay $19.00 a month to keep it activated. The clothes I have I've has sence I was 16 (I'm 25) & my daughter get's her's from the used clothing stores. Like I said before, I do not think that I DESERVE a standard of living which is higher than what I can afford, however I do know that my duaughter DESERVES food in her belly, a roof over her head with heat, the availablility of a doctor when she is ill, a phone to call 911, etc. Before I went on assistance I was paying my taxes, I pay taxes now, & if my ex still doesn't feel it necessary to provide for his daughter by sending his court ordered childsupport & the only way the state is going to help me collect is to get on aid, then so be it. I do what I have to, to take care of my daughter's wellbeing & future. When I need help, I ask for it, now. I was to prowd when I was with my EX, but now I realize that if it is choosing a full belly & safety or being prowd that I did it without aid, I'll choose the full belly & safety. | Should economically challenged people be given a scholarship to help their children finish High School?
I am merely showing you through my experience that not all people that are on assistance are as you depict them. It's bias & incorrect. Not to mention a sad way to look at things, God forbid you ever get in a predicament yourself where you need help. As for why I've chosen this situation, that is simple...as I've said before, I do what I have to for the best of my child. To live where I am living, as opposed to where I was living, is much better for her emotionally & developmentally, as well as having stability & safety here. Therefore, if I have to transit that far from home to go to school/work so be it. | Should economically challenged people be given a scholarship to help their children finish High School?
sorry, wrong, you are not paying for my luxuries...what luxuries? DES only helps me with medical, day care, & food. BTW, I am a tax payer also. | Should economically challenged people be given a scholarship to help their children finish High School?
Thank you very much...Happy Holidays to you also. | Should economically challenged people be given a scholarship to help their children finish High School?

It is available with Rx here & I feel it should be so. If it were fully "over-the-counter" there would be to high a probability that some women would use it as their primary form of Birth Control instead of using it as intended (after possible rape, primary form of birth control malfunctioned, etc). | Do you think that the "morning after" pill should be available over the counter?
