581top. I always get mine pre-cut!Hot dog buns!
582Population. Educated people are having fewer kids to control this, while 3rd world people are still having tons. That means out where we have lots of food because of our industry, we have fewer people to eat it so our standard of living keeps getting better. Out where they have little resources to start with they're having tons of kids, and the problems all get worse.

Bill: We're supposed to be more intelligent than deer. When there are too many deer, the old/sick ones die off from illness and starvation. Or we send hunters in ;) We don't like to see people starve or just leave behind the sick ones (or actively kill the extra ones off). We're aiming for a situation where we stay at the "enough for everyone" stage, not where we are at the "too many people, some have to starve" stage.

What do you think is the biggest problem facing the world going into the next century?
583You forgot "in the right measure" as I'm sure we'll all point out :)

I'm all for honesty and sometimes honesty can seem cruel. I think in the end it's always in the best interest of everyone to have the truth told though and in that sense it's "kinder to tell than to keep lying".

Bill: I think when children see a parent handling something cautiously, they learn to handle it cautiously. How do children learn snakes are something to be careful around? Hopefully they aren't bitten by them :) James learned to be very careful with birds and small animals without first breaking a few :)

Do you sometimes have to be cruel to be kind?
584In the past I've had a lot of credit card debt; now I'm down to one that gets me USAir miles, so I put all of my bills through it and work on paying it off.Do you have any credit card debt?
585Yes, but I don't know all of the rules myself. It bugs me when people are horribly incorrect, but I'm sure it bugs others when I slip.Grammar
586It's a tie between the stove and microwave oven. I microwave lunches at work, but cook in the stove at home.Which cooking device do you use most often?
587I feel I am open minded in the sense that I will always try to listen to another person's point of view, and debate taking that into account. Every person has a viewpoint :) I certainly know I have one. And if someone comes to me and says "all blacks are bad" I'd ask, "why do you feel that way?" Sure, in some cases I have a feeling that their point of view will prove to be invalid, but I still hear them out "just in case". "Open minded" (i.e. liberal) people can be just as guilty as clinging to their beliefs in the face of real proof, stubbornly, as "close minded" people can. I realize that and try my best never to fight for something "just because I KNOW it's right".

Like with the spanking survey, I feel strongly it's wrong. I still read the other opinions to see if I had a flaw in my thoughts, but I went into the discussion with a "point of view".

Do you see yourself as open-minded?
588I'd say no class spirit in either case. I went to dances and proms and such, but other than that, not much. How is your "class spirit"?
589I always joked that I liked bottles of wine with cool bottles (blue ones are very pretty), and recently when out with a friend she admitted she always chooses wines by pretty labels and strangely shaped bottles too! I did choose "Rabbit Ridge" because I loved the rabbit on the label and it ended up being a huge success. Hmmmmmmmmm. What would influence you in buying a new wine?
590First off, are you talking "affair" in that one is married, or just "fling" as in they're having sex and happen to be coworkers?

Yes, I want to know. If one is a "higher level" than the other, I'd want to watch for preferential behavior. What if one suddenly got special treatment at work, or got to work on better projects? Sex at work is all fine and dandy, but people getting raises and promotions because they put out is quite another.

Steve: I'd rather risk being overcautious than have my career sidetracked by people sleeping together. I've worked with "lovers" before and have gotten out of those situations very quickly, because of the trouble that started to be caused. We're not talking about school here, where grades are (mostly) independant and objective. This is my career that drives my salary and enjoyment of life :) Plus, I have also worked with lovers where nothing at all changed in the work environment, despite my being aware of the situation. I think adults can differentiate between random stuff and really preferential treatment.

Would you want to know who a coworker is having an affair with at your company?
