#CommentSurvey
291Lara: Actually I thought about that after I wrote it. I suppose I would hope we could all act like mature adults, and encourage childish people to change, instead of assuming we aren't able to be mature and "accepting immaturity as the norm". I try to err on the side of optimism and encourage the 'good' to continue. I find it works better for me than to live with the bad and work on punishing it.What kinds of criticism are ok on Survey Central?
292ElijahBlue: Very true, I think part of why I made a survey on maturity once is a number of us SCers were complaining about an "immature" person but we all defined the word differently. We all have different threshholds for what we accept as "adult behavior" and what we think is "childish". I can only vouch for my own, and accept that others have different threshholds. As for me being the perpetual good guy, well, first I accept that I also behave "maturely" and "immaturely" at times. I am not a role model ;) But isn't our very act of criticizing on here a method of trying to get others that are falling below our own personal mature threshholds to change? Yes, I make constructive (I hope) comments when someone is childish (by my definition) on here. I'd have to guess that the same is true for other people - they make positive comments when someone "meets/exceeds their expectations" and negative ones when someone "fails to make the grade". They don't judge based on my threshholds, and I don't judge based on theirs ...

Note this mostly, for me, has to do with 'antagonistic attitudes'. It has nothing to do with the actual opinions in given surveys, which I accept all forms of.

So in short (heh) I believe you are exactly right in everything you said, but think that you slanted them to sound 'bad' when I think they are 'normal behavior'.

293Bill: I long ago admitted that I was no role model and was trying to improve myself as well :)I would not call someone childish. That would be nasty. I was just saying that when someone fell below "a threshhold" in my mind, I would think about helping them. If they were above it, I would express my appreciation. I don't think either are "nasty" responses. What kinds of criticism are ok on Survey Central?
294I forgot :) I agree completely about all of us being truthful and also more accepting of criticism. I still think "You annoy me" is unconstructive, while "I like your thought, but it would be easier to understand you if you phrased things in this manner..." is constructive. I personally see no reason to be unconstructive. What kinds of criticism are ok on Survey Central?
295I've seen Antz, but not A Bug's Life yet. Sure, there are two bug movies. Isn't that the way Hollywood always works? Two meteor movies. Two water-disaster movies. Two lava-disaster movies. Sure, somebody hears about the idea and thinks they can do it better. That's the way of capitalism :)What do you think about the recent bug movies?
296Milktree: ROTFL :) Yup, I think it was :)What do you think about the recent bug movies?

298Seal deliberately doesn't put lyrics on his CDs because he's had people who completely loved a song of his, thinking it said one thing, and then were heartbroken when they found out what it "really said". It no longer said something special that they could relate to. I loved the "I don't want to come back down from this cloud" because I thought it was a "happy song" and was sad when I realized it was more of a "depressed song".

There was a song in the 60s that they were going to ban for subversive lyrics (I forget which one) until they did a study and found most kids didn't know what the lyrics were anyway, so it didn't matter.

"I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had"

One the DJs always tormented people with was "Games Without Frontiers" which had the same in French. They'd ask people what the French part was and would laugh at the answers. "She is so funky, yeah..."
