| 11 | People as a species aren't endangered, so no. However, there should be clearing laws to stop unchecked land clearing that impacts neighbours.
Property rights give you the option to sue if your property is adversely impacted by someone else's actions. If a river you use is polluted you can sue. You can place injunctions on actions in order to determine how you will be impacted. Aren't there any local laws to stop people going off-road in vehicles and using firearms dangerously? I'm sure some of these yobbos must be over the alcohol limit while discharging firearms and driving. | Do you think it is just as important to have environmental protection laws for people living in the mountains or woods to where their natural habitat isn't destroyed by neighbors or government, the same as animals / plants who are endangered? |
| 12 | In Australia the economy never went into recession, but it did slow a bit and is now picking up again. | Do you think the economy is getting better? |
| 13 | I think she is lazy and needs to be taken down a peg or two. | What would you think? |
| 14 | When I want to be. | Would you consider yourself a tactful person? |
| 15 | I supported the invasion at the time, especially when they toppled Saddam. I wasn't counting on the people of Iraq being so bellicose and eager to fall back into war. I thought once they were free of oppression they would work together for a better life. Now I see that people deserve the government they have.
All those lives, the time and money lost to a people too stupid to abandon religion and build a prosperous, secular democracy. The war effort was wasted on Iraqis. The West should have gone into Sudan and helped the Africans fight the barbarous Arabs. | In retrospect, was going to war in Iraq a good idea? |
| 16 | Of course. Why not? | Do you think Gays and Lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the U.S. Military? |
| 17 | So married Californians (who are all now heterosexual) should remove their wedding rings when in the army because no one wants to be reminded of their personal lives? Should pictures of weddings be banned, or kids? Should it be a crime for a heterosexual soldier to declare love for his wife? Should he be kicked out of the army for doing so?
What has any of this got to do with defending your country from religious zealots? | Do you think Gays and Lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the U.S. Military? |
| 18 | So following that logic, women should be banned also since there is the same close quarters, but unlike gay soldiers, women have been sexually abused, raped and ridiculed by the heterosexual male soldiers.
Why do Christians always think that gay men during war will be more concerned with sex than with doing their job and staying alive? Christians seem to be very focussed on gay sex for some reason. If any group loses focus, it's the heterosexual men who routinely rape little girls during combat. Rape is used as a tool of war by some armies such as in the Former Yugoslavia. Is this the "norm" that should be upheld in the military? If there were a few gay soldiers around the heterosexual child rapists might not acquire the mob mentality they get when gang raping kids. Yes, life is on the line, the lives of women and children too. Heterosexual men are the group of people we need least of all guarding girls or "searching" houses. It's very strange when you think of it how Christians think a group of men dropping burning chemicals on a school is fine, or stabbing another man in the guts so he dies slowly while being questioned, but let a gay man into the army (gasp) there might be some evil kissing or worse. Christians would rather see men massacre each other than marry each other. Very scary. | Do you think Gays and Lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the U.S. Military? |
| 19 | And people stopped going to church to show how good they are, but actually did good things instead, or spent that time with their kids having fun or teaching them facts about the world.... | Do you think Gays and Lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the U.S. Military? |
| 20 | Satan is the "God" of confusion? I guess he wrote the Bible then, because the Bible contradicts itself so often it's hard to tell what God wants us to do.
If you look back through history, every era has had terrible things happening, which is why so many religious leaders always thought they were living in the "last days". While these things may still occur, slavery is no longer thought of as God's will, and is not accepted by governments as legitimate. Child labor still exists in some places, but generally kids around the world are not sent down coal mines or given the dangerous jobs like they once were. Pedophilia has always been a problem. If you read history, Greece used to accept that women were just for bearing children but pleasure was with boys. Even the Afghans used to take boys with them when travelling called Kuchi Safari or Travelling Wives. Don't you think that the move by women in Islamic countries towards more rights is a good thing? Don't you think that the open discussion of child sexual abuse is only highlighting what has always been, and now we can fight it? The recent studies in Ireland stated that almost all adults in that country had been inappropriately touched or worse by priests. Can you truly say that things were better in the past and we are now living in the worst of times? I don't believe that. More respect for children, women, non-whites and even animals indicates to me that humanity is moving towards a more enlightened phase. Far worse has happened in the past. You think violence is bad now, what about the Crusades when entire cities were killed. Torture at least now is seen as something shameful. We no longer have public disemboweling of criminals. People once went to the Colosseum to see people being torn apart for entertainment, or to the town square to see people being torn apart by 4 horses. Can you say things are worse today? You say tolerance is a bad thing. Well if the Roman people didn't start tolerating Christians who they saw as a cult, they would still be feeding them to lions. Europe was once full of opium dens which were legal. Drugs have always been a problem for humans. It's not a recent thing. Native Americans used peyote. Other peoples used local plants recreationally or for their religion. Marijuana was used before whites got to the Americas. Drugs only become a problem when they are restricted so much that those people who would use them anyway have to pay much more for them. This is why drugs and crime go hand in hand - because people need money for expensive drugs. In Holland where drugs are semi legal and cheap, drug related crime is almost non-existent, and that country functions very well. Why do Christians only see the bad? Why do you think past times were better than today? Is that a healthy way to think? Why do you think the races shouldn't intermarry? You believe God created humans, yet you go against his design when you say this because all human races are able to reproduce and have fertile offspring. This indicates we are the same species. Why did your God make humans so all races can still procreate? You believe God created the confusion of different languages? So your God is a God of confusion then! Are you worshiping Satan here? Finally, your Bible quote describes people throughout history. Even Christians believed this because they all expected to see the end times. When the year 1000 came, the same mania surrounding 2000 existed with people believing they would see Christ return. Why? Because the Bible passage you gave described the people of that time too. It's human nature to be this way. People today are not any worse than humans have always been. Only a short-sighted person with a dark view of the world would think the world today is the worst it has ever been. A few verses after your quote there is 2Tim 3:12 "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.", yet in Proverbs 16:7 we read "When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." So which Bible verse is the lie here? Both CAN'T be true. You say your God is not a god of confusion, yet the Bible is full of contradictory passages with at least one of them being a lie! | Do you think Gays and Lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the U.S. Military? |
