I started reading it 10+ years ago and put it down after getting partway through. I still haven't finished it, and the book is still in my bookcase o' books to read. | How do you feel about the book "Gödel, Escher, Bach"?
One point about the "gay lifestyle" I've heard noted is that is that unlike issues of race it's largely/entirely defined by sexuality & gender, which opens up a whole can o' worms in regards to culture & religion since our Western-ized society is not a sex-positive one. So being homosexual is a defining aspect of someone's life along a path different from what everyone is used to, while trodding on areas that are very familiar to people with long-held assumptions and expectations. This theory doesn't change anything, but it helps to understand why people react the way they do. Personally, I think the majority of people who make the blanket "gay lifestyle" statement are attempting (consciously or unconsciously) to cast homosexuals as extremists so as to be able to justify extreme actions against them. I take the fact that some of the calls to action by folks like Pat Robertson have become more strident in recent years to be a sign that they're getting pushed out of being the mainstream view. | Do you think homosexuality is:
Naw, it's more like epic melodrama. | Do you feel as though your life is a soap opera?
I apologize for the stain and get on w/life. | You notice there is a big stain on your shirt...
I have minor allergies to cats, roaches, and dust that I didn't get until I was 21. I'm also overly sensitive to nonoxonyl-9. | What are you allergic to?
There are two that come to mind - spraining my ankle while taking the stairs in Morgan Hall 2-at-a-time and getting a muscle spasm in my back this past year (no clue about the cause). However, the most pain I've ever experienced was not due to an injury - every f******g time I had my braces tightened over the 2+ years I had them, I'd be in severe pain for two to three days afterwards before it subsided to a dull ache for the next week. | What is the most painful physical injury you have ever had?
I think it should be something like "at least 2/3 votes and a minimum of 6 positive votes," similar to the way new Usenet newsgroups are created. | Instead of "at least 5 "reasonable" votes and zero "flawed" votes to be qualified", how about "at least two-thirds of the votes need to be reasonable?"
The 1811 House chocolate chip cookies are SOOOOOOO good! I got the recipe and will be making them for meMeME - I mean, my friends. | What is your favorite type of cookie?
Letterbox, definitely. | Watching movies on TV: "letterbox" vs. "pan-and-scan"
When watching a video, a subtitle below the picture on a letterboxed film is heavenly - I get to see the movie, hear the language as the actors spoke it and read the text w/out worrying about a scene being so light/dark the text gets washed out. When watching a projected film, I still pick subtitles over dubbing. | Subtitles or dubbed?
