I think the radical constitutionalist and anti-federalist forces in the US are pretty crazy. The ones actually willing to do anything about their beliefs are a tiny minority. The problem is, they get themselves freaked out and they do something weird, like start stockpiling guns and hiding out in some remote location. This kind of action inevitably draws some kind of paramilitary response from the government - the very thing these people are most afraid of. So their worst fears are confirmed and so are the government's, and it's hard to get out of the situation without a bunch of people getting killed.

The Ruby Ridge situation really was a humongous fudge-up on the part of the feds. Despite the rightist bent of the article you referenced, and despite the fact that I don't like Randy Weaver any more than anybody else, everything I've read about that situation suggests that no one should have died there.
During the American Civil War, which state divided in two?
A little quick research (for example, this link) reveals two things. One, Switzerland is awash in firearms of every type and description (ammunition included) and two, only pro-gun pages are interested in talking about Switzerland. Still, I see no reason to disbelieve the statistics. The Swiss appear to be the most gun-crazy people on the face of the planet.

Yeah, but I think last time a lot of people were willing to join the revolution and this time that wouldn't be the case. I'm willing to entertain the idea that the founding fathers were a bunch of gun-crazed loonies, though, if you like.During the American Civil War, which state divided in two?
Oh, I think you're right. I don't really think most revolutionaries were gun-crazed loonies but they were paranoid reactionists who were suspicious of anyone who wasn't... well, themselves. They were frontiersmen. I don't think the British ever really understood how much independence (of the individual variety, at first) meant to these people. Those taxes didn't mean anything to the British but on this side of the pond they looked like the apocalypse.During the American Civil War, which state divided in two?
I tried a few times but didn't ever get the hang of it. And it never seemed that appealing to me.Do you play Hacky-sack?
This took some figuring but I believe I began using Survey Central shortly before the Fourth of July, 2001, so somewhat less than two and a half years ago.How long has it been since you first started using Survey Central?
Sorry - that's what I meant. I got the time right but the year wrong. 2000. Ah, I was so young then. How long has it been since you first started using Survey Central?
Do things ever seem a real long way away to you and then you realize they just happened? Or it seems like some time in your past went on forever but when you actually think about it it didn't last very long. Never trust your own memory, I say, but maybe enjoy the fictions it creates from time to time. How long has it been since you first started using Survey Central?
I went to Disney World. What was the last thing you did for the first time?
I think I'm a little old for the place. My friends had all been there when they were young, so it was a pleasantly nostalgic experience for them, but for me it wasn't that exciting. I really enjoyed the water park and I liked the light show at Epcot, but I didn't really like the Magic Kingdom much, or the "Fantasmic" light show at MGM Studios. I enjoyed the weather quite a bit, though * smile * What was the last thing you did for the first time?
