11database related library of congress

http://www.loc.gov/

good ease of moving around and locating things quickly

I like simple sites, for example keeping the language simple (with regard to frames)
... internet explorer/netcrap-4.0 html tag level
---instead of complex scripts and elaborate and fancy slow loading graphics because not all people use updated browsers or have top of the line, up-to-date computers.

Many users are just starting out and have purchased a used computer and still don't have the advanced technology to apply much of the new programming to their "old browser"

Elaborate sites limit your traffic somewhat and they seem to lean toward retail marketing more, because they are "selling" something and therefore must be very appealing and unusual.

genealogy site /database related -- http://www.familysearch.org/

Database related have the need for an attractive appearance in a simple way, yet the organization is not confusing.

The width of your current site is wider than most laptop screens there is a need for people to have to take the extra time to scroll over, and then i would wonder .... will they? The pull down tool bar is good cause it takes little space. The design is not complex as it is and I don't feel it is confusing, but I can forsee where expansion would clutter it up.

Which web sites do you think have the best "look and feel", ease of use, and/or best layout/design?
12And youre a professional anonymous character hahaaa what a wimp!

language as in simple html tags (html programming language)

keeping the programming language simple so a variety of users browsers can use it too (with the exception of frames)

width - as in using a fixed width to avoid the display from sizing itself

13 I do fine here with a laptop don't get me wrong. It is a minor thing is all. The following is what I am talking about.

When I am in the survey part ( I'll use This Months Best for an example),
if I want to use the "hide/bookmark" for instance, I have to scroll over to the right to find hide/bookmark. This happens when I am on my laptop. It also happens on another page where I have to find "next".
.

In another instance I was working on a desktop pc that had a 15" monitor and I checked out your web site and it did the same thing as when I use my laptop pc.

I am on my laptop right now and the screen here at this page fits just fine without having to scroll over to the right for anything else. But there isn't anything over to the right.

Maybe the hide/bookmark could be placed elsewhere? I think it's the width of the comment box that is causing that, maybe the column size pushing the hide/bookmark thing over?

I am probably a small percentage of the user that has experienced this.

By mentioning it here, I only wanted to make you aware of it.

14By mentioning it here I've made the site manager aware of the problem I had. I was only speaking for myself.

For your information though, just because one 15" monitor has a viewing area of 13.7" doesn't mean all of them do.
