Nikes. I think that was the only fad I actually cared about, having the right kind of sneakers for the first day of school. The rest of the time I was pretty good about avoiding the trends, but the sneaker nazis in my jr. high were vicious. Mass purchase of designer clothing: IZOD, Jordache, Calvin Klein, Agnier. Synthesizers. Cocaine. Those are the ones that come to mind. | The 80's
I cannot STAND sitcoms. | if aliens offered you super-ecstasy but you couldn't share it with anyone or you'd spend eternity watching 3s company reruns, would you accept? why (not)?
somewhere around thirty, I didn't take attendance | what's the greatest number of people you've had in a pile up? (blame romkey if you hate this survey)
I think Tarot readings can be very interesting and revealing, especially when done by a reader with experience and talent in reading people. I think Tarot (and other similar tools) can be very useful in terms of focusing one's mind. | Tarot Cards
I basically figure that I can probably answer "it depends" on just about every question that is an opinion or hypothetical question, as well as many in other categories. So I pretty much answer questions as if they said "if you HAD to choose yes/no" in front of them and go into the things on which my answer depends in my comments. | Is "it depends" a reasonable answer to a survey?
I consider myself tolerant and sensitive to others' beliefs, needs and identities. At least, that is what I strive to be. I think that "politically correct" is a dismissive phrase that implies a lack of thought or genuine caring. | Do you consider yourself "politically correct"?
Re: chips on shoulders...I don't have a lot of patience with people who get angry about slurs and insensitivity. Anger is rarely a useful way of making a conversational point or encouraging people to change their ways. If anger gives you the energy for activism, fabulous, but just being angry makes one bitter and hard to be around, without being at all useful. I think perhaps people here have taken my words here to be more emotionally charged than they actually are. Another step in my continuing education about the importance of clarity in writing :) | Do you consider yourself "politically correct"?
My impression is that the Berkeley police officers in general are reasonably conscientious and good at their jobs, but that their priorities are being set by politicians and I have problems with those priorities. When I lived in Boston I was more aware of the internal politics and corruptions and had more direct (and generally negative) contact with the officers themselves. | What do you generally think of policeman/women in your own particular area ?
Ugh. Small villages where everyone knows everyone else...I hate 'em, myself, having grown up in one. Stuck in a community governed by who else happens to buy houses in the same geographical zone, where the grocery store clerk knows who's expecting company or feeling a financial pinch and feels free to spread it, where everything you do is seen and noted and passed around and used to judge you. No thanks. I think stories like hillbilly's are not uncommon in small towns. I have a very strong sense of community, but it's based on people whose lives I actually have some interest in sharing. For those of you who like living in small towns and haven't had bad experiences with them, I think that's great and you should enjoy it, but I think there is much to be said for the anonymity of larger places and the resources available therein. | What do you generally think of policeman/women in your own particular area ?
My school actually had a Junior Prom and a Senior Snowball. I went to the former, but my class was always lame on fundraising and couldn't afford a Snowball, so there wasn't one. I went with a guy who was into me, in a group of four couples. Basically I rounded up my friends and made them scrounge up dates. We actually took a formal picture of the four of us together in our gowns that is pretty cool. I had an ok time, better than the two previous proms I'd attended, not as good as later proms I attended. | Did you attend your high school senior prom?
