#CommentSurvey
381Sure, Bill, go ahead. Please do both word count and separate comments, if you don't mind.Generally speaking, who talks more, men or women?
382I tend to be too long-winded (surprise!) but otherwise I do pretty well. How do you feel about public speaking?
383Hmmn...sexistly enough, I find myself thinking that it is better for women to be "too stubborn" and men to be "too passive," because of the relative roles in our society. But, playing along with the creator, I went with "too stubborn" for all of us, because I think that passive people get dragged into too many messy situations by the more assertive among us. On the other hand, most of the seemingly passive people I have ever known were the most stubborn once you hit their bedrock. Is it better to be too stubborn or too passive?
384OK, let's have a review of the word "fair." "Fair" means that all violations of rules are treated equally, "fair" means that all people who violate a rule are treated equally. If someone else displaying a picture of a razor was also expelled, then this is "fair."

Now, is the No Tolerance rule itself "reasonable"? I would say no, when taken to this degree. I think that schools are under a lot of pressure to fix a problem over which they may not have much control and are taking extreme measures in response. I think that pictures of paraphernalia are not paraphernalia and I would protest this decision along those lines. It's not "unfair," it's just ridiculous.

I think that schools need to word their "No Tolerance" very carefully. Is there no tolerance of syringes for diabetics, hyper allergic peanut phobic children or bee-sting kits? Is there No Tolerance of dollar bills or mirrors (also usable with cocaine)? How about soda cans and bottles, which can be used as bongs and pipes? Spoons? Belts?
Ultimately, I think this has to be a matter for a judiciary committee, which opens the schools up to a different set of accusations, but which allows for some recognition of circumstances and, I think, provides a better educational environment than No Tolerance of anything.

And, btw, it's paraphernalia, with an 'r'.

Do you thinks schools are too tough in defining "drug paraphanilia?"
385I don't usually correct spelling (although I do correct word usage from time to time), but in this case, the dictionary couldn't find paraphenalia at all, so I realized the creator couldn't know what the right spelling was (unless there was a dictionary handy, which I always recommend :)), and thought I'd offer it.

386Probably not in passing on the street, although I might think "Gee, that looks like...," but if I were, for example, in line with one of them at a grocery store or at a party with them, where I actually look at the people around me, I'd probably recognize them.Which of the following people could you identify if you passed them on the street?
387Mark McGwire is the current holder of the Most Home Runs in a Season record in baseball, having smashed Roger Maris' record (61) and beaten Sammy Sosa (65?) and ended with 70 in the 1998 season.

All of you who know me can pick your jaws back up now.
Which of the following people could you identify if you passed them on the street?
388Ah well. At least I know what I don't know :) Thanks, North79.Which of the following people could you identify if you passed them on the street?
389Wicksy, he's in the news a lot over here. I'm pretty sure I'd recognize him. Which of the following people could you identify if you passed them on the street?
390Oh, I meant Bill Gates, the one *in* the survey. Bill, the survey creator, I would certainly recognize and be miffed if he didn't say hi :)Which of the following people could you identify if you passed them on the street?
