I'm currently on Zyban, which is Wellbutrin, to help me to quit smoking. It's working well on that front. I don't perceive any other effects, really. I am afraid that I will smoke if I get off it, which is a little scary, but I'll deal with that when it becomes an issue. One thing that does really piss me off is that after I'd been taking it for a month, my health care provider announced that they wouldn't pay for it when used to quit smoking. Like they don't want me to quit?!!! Luckily, I'm in a position to afford it on my own, but I'm annoyed by their short-sighted decision. | Are you on any kind of antidepressant drugs?
P-O-P-U-L-A-R We really didn't have computer nerds (lacking computers, for the most part)...I think the equivalent was the A/V crowd, I think. I was a "brain" mostly, which did not make me particularly popular and eventually made me fairly spectacularly unpopular right at the end. | When you went to school what group of people were you in?
"More memorable" doesn't really compute. I remember my first kiss and my first experience of sexual intercourse. I don't think of either of them very often, although they both make good stories. | Which of these was the most memorable to you?
I'd like to, but the state of my knees is enough to make me nervous about serious injury. | Have you ever jumped out of a perfectly good airplane?
There are circumstances in which I pass on the right. These are not those. | Do you pass on the right?
I don't find watching other people kiss sexually stimulating, unless I've been treated to watching an extended build-up of sexual tension, as in a movie (this is why porn movies don't do it for me). I have kissed both men and women in public without much of a second thought (and those second thoughts have to do with the appropriateness of a PDA, not with the sex of my partner). When I see people of the same sex kissing, I generally feel very emotionally positive about it, not that they are kissing, but that they feel free to do so. I recently watched two businessmen kissing goodbye in front of my office building and saying "Have a good day, sweetie!" and it made my whole day. | How do you feel when you see a same sex couple kiss?
Hillbilly, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Seriously, I've spent time on many Usenet groups and mailing lists where the tone is much more sensitive, inflammatory and accusatory. SC is not one of the more vituperative places to chat. | Would you consider yourself "easily offended"?
OK, there are a lot of differences of opinion on this, but here's what I hope is a fair overview. Sex is the mostly dimorphic biological differences: male and female. Gender, as it is used in linguistics, means "kind" and those kinds are, in Western European languages, linked to masculine, feminine and neuter distinctions (other language families have other genders). Then there's "gender" as often used today either instead of "sex" or to mean "the whole social package of what it means in a society to be a man or a woman." Personally, it's always seemed to me that people use "gender" because they find "sex" somehow offensive, which I don't, but I do understand the desire to distinguish between the biological differences and the sociological differences, although I wish they'd picked a different word for that. So, what the smart alecks here :) are saying is that they've never considered switching from masculine to feminine or vice versa, much less switching sexes. Some people seem to also use the word attached to sexual orientation, but I've never quite understood the fine points of that usage. | Have you ever thought of switching your gender? Why?
I assume we're talking gross, not net. | What is your salary?
Emily, what's the purpose of asking people if they liked Star Wars, or what part of their body they wash first in the shower? Because it's interesting to know. That's the purpose of all of these questions, ostensibly, and I can't imagine the reason suddenly changed just because we're talking about money. | What is your salary?
