| 619 | OIC. ABC Online ABC Sci-Tech - 12/12/02 : Bad circuit crashed $150m jet at Woomera [This is the print version of story http://www.abc.net.au/news/scitech/2002/12/item20021212080335_1.htm] Thu, Dec 12 2002 9:51 AM AEDT Bad circuit crashed $150m jet at Woomera A computer glitch has been blamed for July's disastrous launch of a Japanese supersonic jet model at South Australia's Woomera rocket range. Japan's National Aerospace Laboratory says a design change caused the $150 million scale model's computer system to short-circuit. Flight director Kimio Sakata says the autopilot then reset itself and caused the jet and rocket booster to separate during take-off. He says the jet system is being redesigned so the team can do three more test launches at Woomera. "We are just doing the planning for the new schedule but we strongly hope to have the next trial within a year," he said. Researchers want to complete the program by summer 2004. © ABC 2002 | privacy Hare Krishna! | Seek out a survey by using SC's search utility to find a rare word or a word you think would be strange to locate in a survey's question or explanation. | 620 | Here is more news from Woomera ABC Online ABC News - Woomera detainee climbs razor wire fence [This is the print version of story http://www.abc.net.au/news/australia/sa/metsa-11dec2002-8.htm] Posted: Wed, 11 Dec 2002 20:06 ACDT Woomera detainee climbs razor wire fence Part of the Woomera Detention Centre was locked down today after an incident involving one of the detainees. It is understood the Afghan man climbed a razor wire fence and refused to come down after his asylum application was rejected on character grounds. He has admitted to having links to an overseas paramilitary organisation. It is believed another incident followed soon after with about 40 inmates hurling rocks at a staff building. Staff at the centre eventually coaxed the man down from the fence and although he was not hurt, he was taken to the Woomera Hospital for observation. The Department of Immigration says the situation at the centre has now returned to normal. © ABC 2002 | privacy Hare Krishna! | Seek out a survey by using SC's search utility to find a rare word or a word you think would be strange to locate in a survey's question or explanation.
