51oo... toughie. I really don't know.
I suspect I've hurt more people than I've been hurt by, but that I've been hurt more by the latter than I've hurt the former.
But I don't have a lot of confidence in that estimation; it's a subjective judgement about a highly emotional question about which I have a very skewed view.
Which has happened more : The number of times you have broken people's hearts or the number of times people have broken yours ?
52...using a very liberal interpretation of "relationship", but limiting myself to counting one relationship per individual. How many relationships have you been in ?
53A few of these... I should qualify "images" 'cuz I don't do visual imagery, but I often do the equivalent for other sensory modes... hearing voices, for example, or the harder-to-describe sensory experience of "presence."What do you think about before you fall asleep?
54eris - I've never heard it called "petting the cat" before... * wink * What do you think about before you fall asleep?
55I'm about 5'10", weigh about 230#, have a noticable belly, and am fully capable of hiking all day, running to catch a bus, and moving big heavy things for extended periods. I'm not sure how that fits into your category structure. I checked "fat".Are you Fat?
56Some only vaguely.
A colophone (sp? that doesn't look right) has something to do with publication; it's what we called the box with the list of staff and contributors for the paper I worked on; I'd assume it means more generally a place where publication information appears, although it might mean something more generic similar to "logo."
A juggernaut (I'm sure about that one) is an unstoppable force.
Defenestration is removal through a window; I'd expect fenestration to be something like the installation of a window or the property of having windows.
Aphasia is a pathological inability to speak, often psychological.
An excrescence (sp?) is a pustule, sore, or similar skanky growth.
Haggis is similar to excrescence... no, just kidding... it's a tripe dish, I believe, noted for being unpalatable to many.
I know jackanapes is an insult, but I don't really know what it means.
An obeisance (sp?) is a ritualized submissive gesture, like bowing.
Without looking them up, how many of these things can you identify?
57I taught it to my nephew a few years back.
We then spent some time trying to work out alternative rules and figuring out whether there had to be an odd number of symbols for the game to work and, if so, why.
Did you play rock, paper, scissors as a kid?
58A family heirloom is a concrete symbol of the other person being welcome to your family. Spending a significant portion of your assets is a concrete symbol of your willingness to sacrifice for the relationship. Both are valuable in their place, neither is necessary -- or rather, if they are, the relationship has troubles. Other things might be important, too... for example, something handmade, or an indication that you've thought hard about the other person's tastes, or...
Bottom line -- it matters, it's a symbol, but what it's a symbol *of* is really up to you.
What is important in an engagement ring?
59I share the idea of an engagement ring as a concrete symbol of the importance the relationship has to you, but it's by no means your only option. If you want to make a symbolic statement of that sort, there's plenty of opportunity to do so... surely there's something s/he would value that you could do with the resources you saved on the ring.
On the other hand, if you don't really want to do that but feel obligated to, you may want to explore that more carefully before doing anything else.
The Engagement Ring: Dollars and Sentiments
60Mm. Depends on what "through human misery" means, but assuming it was something I felt strongly about, I'd probably give it away in some fashion or other. Ideally, in such a way as to directly improve matters for those victimized in the first place.
Of course, it's easier for me to say that now, in a relatively financially comfortable place.
Would you keep dirty money?
