Scar tissue grows just fine. | Do you think that a girl aged 16 is too young for breast enlargement surgery?
I would have thought that they did this years ago. | Germany admitted the first women into its military combat forces on January 2nd, 2001 when 244 volunteers were inducted into the German army, air force and navy. Were you aware?
I have since read a little more on this. Apparently, a source of friction is that the top brass have requested that male soldiers "refrain from breaking wind" when in the same vehicle as the female soldiers (farting next to your male compatriots is still allowed). I'm not making this up. I'm of the rather strong opinion that someone who is (putatively) training to kill in the service of their country should not be put off by a little methane. | Germany admitted the first women into its military combat forces on January 2nd, 2001 when 244 volunteers were inducted into the German army, air force and navy. | 614 | Is it sexist if I point out that men commit murder at a higher rate than women? | What is your greatest hope for the world in 2001?
It's certainly an invalid comparison. If his math doesn't make sense, blame his math: don't claim he's racist. | What is your greatest hope for the world in 2001?
"presumably that segment does own more firearms per capita" That is simply incorrect; if anything (thanks in part to things like bans on "Saturday night specials", racist legislation if I've ever seen it), blacks, particularly poor, urban blacks own fewer guns than the general populace. If you look at the distribution of gun owners, murderers, and murder victims in the US, you'll see no positive correlation between the guns and the murders. Gun owners tend to be (relatively) rich, rural, and white. Murderers and murder victims tend to be poor, urban and black. Lest Maarten start calling me a racist, too, let me hasten to add that skin color has precious little to do with this: rich, rural whites and rich, rural blacks have similar murder patterns. Poor, urban and black (add also young and male) are all factors correlating with increased chances of being either murdered or a murderer. Correlation is not causation: It's not a value judgement or even particularly useful as a predictive tool for any given person. | What is your greatest hope for the world in 2001?
Is pork a public asset and do the politicians' debts count? | Is your national government selling off public assets to repay debt?
Attack knives? Are those like assault weapons? | Do you think that people have the right (or should have the right) to own lethal weapons?
Thanks, but I was being facetious. The pocket knife that I usually carry would probably be considered an "attack knife", but if I should ever have to pick a knife with which to stab someone, I'd use one of my kitchen knives: they're much better suited to the task. I have a problem with classification of weapons based on the (often supposed) intent of the designer rather than their effectiveness as a weapon. "Assault weapons" (and "attack knives") are perfect examples of this. | Do you think that people have the right (or should have the right) to own lethal weapons?
Where, exactly, did you see these statistics? The Home Office doesn't have firearm crime statistics more recent that 1997. Are you counting all crime, violent crime, or firearm crime? | Do you think that people have the right (or should have the right) to own lethal weapons?
